Mild prolapse but feels awful

Jet888 · 07/03/2022 19:32

Saw gp today with prolapse. She was lovely but did super quick examination then told me a mild bladder prolapse and referred me to an incontinence clinic to help with exercises. (I don't have incontinence apart from extreme jumping etc) . My question is does anyone else only have a mild prolapse that feels awful? I have constant bladder pressure like I need to wee all the time, very uncomfortable feeling, can't run or jump with exercise. Is this normal for a mild prolapse? And anyone been to an incontinence clinic for physio help? What to expect? Thankyou

Did she examine you standing up or laying down?
I have a bladder and bowel prolapse and both feel horrible. Like the world might fall out of me

Jet888 · 07/03/2022 19:44

It was lying down. What's really silly is that id read before that I should ask her to examine me standing up but when you're in the room, feeling really rushed, and she just said lay down and I'll do the examination straight away I just did what she told me to...

I guess she referred me on to the clinic which is what she would have done regardless of whether it was classed as mild or moderate right? She said there was no way my level would be anywhere near being considered for surgery.

You can ask for a referral to a gynae OR if you can fund it, pay for that appt yourself.

It's also not really possible to assess prolapse when lying down.

I had surgery for mine, decades back, and the gynae did ask me to stand up to examine me to make a better assessment. Mine was very mild too but still felt uncomfortable as if something was always 'there'.

Thankyou, yes it did feel bit of a strange appointment. First the referall to the incontinence clinic when I'm not actually incontinent then she said if that didn't work after 6 months she'd put me on medication for overactive bladder, which I also don't want to be on. I think I'll see these incontinence nurses and see what they say and if it doesn't help tell the gp I want a gynae referall, not medication. Got to wait 6 weeks for the letter to come through about the incontinence nurses now!

No advice but I'm similar situation. Quick lying down examination where they say a mild prolapse from the front.

From my own research I Understand it's probably bladder prolapse. I'm not incontinent, it's just that I can feel it.

I've just been told to do pelvic floor and go back in 3 months if still a problem Hmm Google says it never improves tho, just gets worse.

It's been 2 months and it's not worse and I try to avoid things that make it worse, feel like I'm one bad move away from disaster.

I feel like I want to ask for gynea refer and some sort of scan to see what exactly is in the wrong place as my pelvic floor feels pretty strong to me. Private if I have to as it seems they dont really help you unless your pissing urself.

Ronnii · 08/03/2022 11:50

For those that had surgery.. is it then over? No symptoms and back to normal?

Jet888 · 08/03/2022 14:48

@Ronnii your experience of symptoms sounds just like me. I've decided to pay for a session with private women's health physio I think. Then I can get started on the correct exercise problem ASAP. (I want to get it right as I used to have a hypertonic pelvic floor before kids which also caused a raft of similar issues so I want to be properly assessed and recommended my own appropriate exercise programme). Then if no better after 5 months or so il go back to gp and say I want some other treatment options that aren't OAB medication. I'm surprised she didn't even mention things like pessaries. Just said 'I can give you overactive bladder medication but the side effects can be very unpleasant!'

@Jet888 most of what I've learnt about treatment options is from googling and I'm still not sure what the best thing to do is.

I had so many birth injuries this is just the cherry on the cake now. I've been sort of ignoring it as much as I can but know I need to see physio/gynea/some specialist.

I want more kids so I'm worried they won't help me anyway, but I think that's for surgery options.

I can't imagine what personalised exercises will be like but I guess that's why I need to get assessed. I would rather Google how to fix it lol

Retq · 09/03/2022 11:13

I would recommend looking into hypopressives exercises. Some physios specialise in this and can be done along side kegels. If you want to go down no surgery route for now

Ronnii · 09/03/2022 17:36

@Retq Interesting, thank you I'll look at that

Jet888 · 10/03/2022 20:54

Thankyou all for advice and hugs! Very bizarrely I stopped doing any exercises, pfilates or kegels a few days ago and have felt bit better since stopping. So not sure if my pelvic floor is too tight despite the walls being lax? Il see what the private physio says about it all!

Been following this thread, as I'm in a similar position as you OP. Just waiting on physio appointment to confirm my self diagnosis! But I also got lots better when I cut down the exercises, and I'm almost certain my pelvic floor is overactive. I'd be really interested to hear what your physio has to say, if you don't mind sharing! Do you have any other symptoms which suggest it's overactive?

Jet888 · 11/03/2022 20:37

Yes, will definitely share info/advice from physio after my appointment!
I remember from when I was confirmed with hypertonic pelvic floor pre kids my 2 main symptoms were bladder pressure as if someone was pressing on it (similar to what I have now) and painful intercourse (I no longer have this problem)
The women's health physio i saw bavk then dud internal massage over a series of sessions and fixed it.

Hi everyone, I teach pilates and have had some great training for pelvic floor from a woman's health physio called Tracey Gjertsen. It's worth googling her as she does online programmes called 'Resilience'. She does programmes for prolapse, weakness and menopause. And they're not very expensive.
