Procedure under GA

Tomorrow I have a procedure under GA to check for any baddies lurking around. I am post menopausal, nearly 60, bloated tummy, tummy pains, pink/blood discharge, breathlessness and low folate levels.

It is being done under GA because I have too much scar tissue from previous cervical procedures (loads) and they cannot gain access to my uterus.

Is there anyone else here who has had scarring and they only found polyps or cysts?

Would they tell me the same day if they had good/bad or suspect news?

Just bricking it a little actually so any good stories may well cheer me up! And Dr Google has not been my friend. Grin

How did it go @RedWhiteOrBlue? Hope you are okay.

Have you not had a transvaginal scan first? That can reveal a LOT. It's usually only after this that they do (assuming) a hysteroscopy.

RedWhiteOrBlue · 27/02/2022 14:52

I had a hysteroscopy under GA. Because of scarring in the cervix, they could not get through to my uterus so had to cut me open and stitch me back up afterwards.

They removed some polyps and took biopsy's and I will know about the results in about 2 weeks.

The surgeon said if any abnormal cells than fast track to hysterectomy or if not abnormal, then slow list as they cannot do this procedure again as I am so scared from all previous cervical investigations. Good news, no ovarian cancer/masses.

That sounds like good news overall, glad it went well.

my uterus so had to cut me open and stitch me back up afterwards.

I've never heard of that. Sounds horrible. Do you mean they cut you open as if it was a Caesarian section?

If nothing abnormal is found, then that's great news and you won't need anything else doing.

Sorry, my clumsy way of telling things. They went up vaginally. My cervix has closed towards my uterus due to scaring from previous procedures. They tried a few days before to do it under local anaesthetic and said it was too difficult. They have now done it under GA and the surgeon told me they almost gave up but then took the decision to cut an opening through, have a look around, remove polyps and biopsies and then stitch me back up again.
