Could this be a ruptured Ovarian Cyst?

6 days ago I started to get a pressure/heaviness ache in my left lower abdomen. Near my hip so around the pelvic area, this moved into my side and my back. Completely lost my appetite and felt nauseas and lethargic. I thought it could have been pelvic inflammatory disease due to having a miscarriage back in December.

Yesterday I ended up in a&e as the pain got so severe and had a wave of about half an hour of intense pain, couldn’t stand, hurt to sit, nearly passed out from the pain. My blood tests have come back clear for an infection and I also had a scan on my ovaries 4 weeks ago which were clear.

Could I have grown a cyst so quickly and it ruptured when all my scans the last few months have shown no cysts?? Im struggling to understand what this could be!!

After the intense pain yesterday, it has now gone back into a dull constant ache.

Anyone had anything similar?? Thanks! Smile

Sounds very like endometriosis. It’s incredibly common (1/10 women) but affects some with all the symptoms and some with none or one/two. Some have bad pain and others don’t have any. You can only really be diagnosed through surgery so it’s hard to get a diagnosis.

www.endometriosis-uk.org/ have good info.

Kidney stone passing through?

Lauren34 · 19/02/2022 16:01

Hmmm, they did mention endometriosis if my swabs for infection come back clear. Would I have such severe pain for 6 days though?Shock I’m not even on my period. It does sound like similar symptoms but so confused how 4 weeks ago there were no cysts atall?! Bizarre.

They’ve checked my urine and no sign of a UTI etc. Never had kidney stones so unsure how they get diagnosed, is that through urine sample?

After watching 'this is going to hurt' Grin I think it might be worth googling my ovarian torsion. Probably not that at all!

I've had ovarian cysts, even had surgery to remove a 7cm one, but I've never experienced that. Doesn't mean that's not what yours was though.

If you are no longer suffering maybe it's just nothing to worry about, but if you do get it again push for some more tests.

Yes some people get very severe pain with it. Often around ovulation and periods but equally it could be at any time of your cycle.

If the swabs come back clear then definitely get a referral for a gyne consultation.

I have fibroids and suffered with pain like you described. Might be worth asking for an internal scan?

mallees · 20/02/2022 03:36

Google Adenomyosis. Incredibly difficult to diagnose.
Did you have a c-section or other internal interventions? Do you find the pain is linked to your cycle?

Nat6999 · 20/02/2022 04:24

Sounds like I was with Endometriosis. I had always had painful periods from when they started but when I was 44 the pain got a lot worse & I had pain during the whole of my cycle. I ended up sat in A & E with a packed bag I was in so much pain, I was dismissed as having a uti. My GP referred me for an internal scan which was clear & then referred me to a gynacologist who did a laparoscopy & said I had an ovarian cyst & pelvic inflammatory disease. I had another op a month later to remove the cyst, my ovary & both tubes,he apologised to me then said I had endo not PID. The pain carried on & six months later I had a hysterectomy.

I suffer with ovarian cysts pretty much every month and I also have adenomyosis. I don’t think pain from a cyst or adeno would radiate up into your side and back. That sounds like kidney stones, a uti or possibly endometriosis that’s spread. I mean cysts are bloody painful but mine stay in the lower abdomen/pelvic area even when they burst. I think you need a trip to your GP and ask for a referral to gynae. Anything like that needs checking. Actually thinking about it do you know if you were ovulating by any chance? I have a condition which is linked to my cysts called mittelschmerz or ovulation pain and the pain from that when I’m ovulating does go into my lower abdomen and lower back. Hope you get answers soon. Took me a few years to get all mine.

@Nat6999 @CharlotteRose90 I’ve always had painful, long and heavy periods. According to my AF app it would be the week of ovulation that this pain has started but its now day 7?! And still not letting up. Not able to eat either as I’ve completely lost my appetite.

@Lauren34 sorry I know this is an old post, but did you get to the bottom of what it was? I’m in agony with very similar symptoms.
