Period problem - graphic content

Hello everyone- I'm so sorry for the graphic content, but I'm a bit concerned.
I've had increasingly heavy periods now for months. I also have started to come on early if I'm poorly. This time I'm not due for 12 days, but have Covid and it's arrived early. The same happened a few months back when I had tonsillitis. When this happens they are especially heavy, and then I'll have another bleed when I'm due. Even during my normal cycles, they are unbearable. I've had to start wearing incontinence pads as I soak through even the highest absorbency pads, my breasts are horrifically sore constantly. Earlier as I went to the toilet and removed my underwear, there was a huge gush of blood which just went everywhere, all over the floor, the toilet, me - I was absolutely beside myself and screamed, in bursts husband who was terrified and thought I was bleeding to death. I was absolutely mortified and so upset. I'm not someone who's squeamish or embarrassed about my body, but this was genuinely shocking from the sheer amount. Dh was bloody wonderful and so lovely to me whilst I had a good cry and made me a cup of tea and hot water bottle - but Is this normal? I'm used to leaking through pads, etc but this has never happened and it's frightened me a bit. I've also started having clots which I've never had before.
Thank you for reading and apologies if this grosses anyone out.

How old are you? This happened to my mum when she went into peri menopause.

Junction5aOnTheM4 · 11/02/2022 01:14

And that was when she was 40, bit early.

Mediumred · 11/02/2022 01:25

I think you should phone 111 at least, if not think about a&e. This sounds far beyond what could be classed as ‘normal’, am sorry to ask but is there any chance you were pregnant and miscarrying? It really should be checked whatever the cause as that amount of blood loss is worrying. Best of luck.

ladydimitrescu · 11/02/2022 01:42

Thank you so much for your replies. I'm 31 this year, and there's no way I am pregnant at this time.
I think maybe 111 is a good idea, I just need to gear myself up to call. Im an anxious wreck in general, especially on the phone - and even though periods are nothing to be embarrassed about, for some reason i am mortified!

Oh gosh, I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

It's happened to me once before. Normal period, woke it the night to a gushing feeling and the bed was soaked. Went to the loo and a blood clot the size of my palm fell out. It was horrific, and like you I was very upset and crying.

Mentioned it to the doctor who called it menstrual flooding. Definitely get it checked out . Hope you feel better soon Flowers

You poor thing. Sending you a virtual hug. Because I can completely relate. Same age also. Mine used to be light and short before I had my DC. Since having DC, you would think somebody has literally cut me from the inside and I am just bleeding profusely. Heavily. For days. Usually extremely heavy like you've described for 4 days then tapers off the last 3 days but lasts for a while 7 sometimes 8 days. Also used to be like clockwork every 28 days. Have been all over the place since having DC. Even had 2 in one month once. Have settled down slowly over the past 6 months in terms of regularity. But heaviness is always the same. A family member told me that we have a history of very early menopause in our bloodline. Could be that I suppose. It's worth visiting your GP just to check it's nothing more serious. I should probably do the same thing to be fair lol. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone! Thanks

You poor thing. Flooding is awful and scary as hell. Hope you’re doing ok.
Make an urgent GP appointment, request a gynae referral to investigate (they are taking months and months now, sorry) and see what your GP can offer in the meantime to help manage it. Tranexamic acid works for some people.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/02/2022 06:45

Have had this exact issue due to peri
menopause and the only thing that stopped it ultimately was ablation surgery. You need a gynaecologist referral asap. It would likely be worth it to see a gynaecologist as a private patient for an initial consultation if finances allow.

TruffleNoir · 11/02/2022 21:06

I'm having similar issues just now. I started my period over night and today have has "flooding" and clots like the last few cycles. I spoke to my gp before Christmas who prescribed Tranexamic acid which helps a bit but not as much as I'd hoped.

Was actually looking at this forum section for anyone going through similar. It's just awful isn't it.

ladydimitrescu · 12/02/2022 00:07

I'm so sorry to hear of the problems you have all faced too. It helps to know I'm not alone in this retrospect. It would be great to keep the thread going so we can see how we are all getting on and support one another.
I feel as a woman there's a bit of a mentality that we should just get on with anything period related, anytime I've mentioned it previously I've been met with along the lines of "it's normal" or "just a part of being a woman".
I developed incredibly early and started my periods aged 9, and I've always suffered with painful heavy periods, but much worse since my DC.
I will be speaking with my gp as soon as I shift Covid Hmm
Thank you all again x

Hi, I would ask your GP for a gynae referral and tranexamic acid in the meantime. I had very similar symptoms and it turned out to be fibroids.

TruffleNoir · 13/02/2022 10:52

I'm on day three now of really heavy periods and I've been through so many sanitary towels already this morning. I stand up and i can feel the blood pouring out of me Blush I've got Tranexamic acid but it doesn't seem to help much x
