Smear results

I've had my smear test results back and I have high-grade (moderate) dyskaryosis and high risk HPV and I need a Colposcopy. Has anyone been in a similar position with these results? I'm terrified that I've got cancer and I'm driving myself crazy with worry!

Hey , yes i did last year. Got myself into a right state! I had to go for a colposcopy and had the cells removed at same time. Repeat smear in 6months and was all clear. Its actually more common than you think. You will be okay! Smile This is why we have them done. Hand hold for you. Daffodil

I've had a colcoscopy and was HPV pos until recently last year. It was uncomfortable that's all. Good luck OP.

Yes exactly as @mumpower3 said. Had colposcopy, cells removed same day and repeat smear in 6 months. I was so SO anxious and upset, I was looking up research papers and all sorts! I hope your colposcopy appt comes through quickly Flowers

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I've been going out of my mind with worry, my little girl is only 13 months and I've convinced myself that it's cancer and that she's going to be without her mummy 😢

Also been there. Went in and had a LLETZ. Staff were lovely, it wasn’t pleasant but it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I’d imagined. Mine had gone a little further so had MRI and CT but all well, yearly checks for 5 years (and had 2 babies in that time too) and have now been given the all clear to go back to regular smears at the GP.
The only negative feedback I had for them was that I’d wish they kept the bottle of lube on the radiator rather than the windowsill!

@SingingWaffleDoggy Thanks, that's really encouraging that you had 2 babies in that time, we really want to try for number 2 but I've been unsure where this leaves us...

The biopsy that they took had what they call negative borders meaning that the edges were all clear so they were confident they’d got it all. I waited for my first yearly check and when they was clear had a baby before my next check, then a couple of years and had another baby in between checks. There’s no problem if you need to postpone checks due to pregnancy, they just do it once you’ve had baby, although I’d probably try TTC after an appointment just for peace of mind

Yes, I had the exact same situation as you. I was beside myself, and very nearly messed things up with my new partner at the time, due to the overwhelmingly anxiety. I couldn’t eat, sleep, speak!

Well, I had the colposcopy which came back high risk hpv. Then I had to wait a year and have it again - it came back completely clear. Then, I had annual smears, which all came back completely clear. And now I’m back to three year checks. I’ve several friends of all ages, with the same happen to them.

The anxiety didn’t get the better of me. And, I didn’t mess up the start of the relationship, we’re happily married now Smile

Chin up, it’s not the end of the world. Treatment is amazing now! Flowers

I had to abnormal results then normal then another abnormal. I had cin 3 and procedure to remove abnormal cells. Its terrifying at the time but believe me loads of women go through same. That was 15 year ago I've had 2 children since and normal results. I'm due a smear in the next couple of month and still scared to go but know its for the best.

I've got my appointment next week and I'm so nervous!! Does anyone know the difference between high-grade moderate and high-grade severe?? Mine is high-grade moderate, maybe I'm clutching at straws but do I stand a better chance with it not being severe??
