Red parch on left boob

LoveMySituation · 02/02/2022 21:48

In the bathroom mirror when I get in the shower, I've noticed there's a red path of skin on my left boob(I've noticed it for a while now, I hate having boobs, so I never have anything to do with that area, so unless it's unavoidably in front of me I don't look at them. Certainly don't check them. I'm 43 and in perimenopause. My mother died of cancer, in that area, diagnosed at 46. It's only recently occurred to me that that could be a symptom. I'm waiting to move house at the moment, and my Dr's are awful so I'm not going to them. Is there anything else it could be?

Multiple typos on the word 'patch'

Could it be rubbing from your bra? What kind of patch?
You know you have to get it checked asap, don’t you? Never mind the house move, please see a GP. Hugs.

PangolinPie · 02/02/2022 21:56

No-one on here could possibly know what it might be and with your family history you MUST get it checked, you know that right? Please get yourself to your GP. That's the only way to know for sure.

Go to your Dr ASAP. I say this as someone who went from thinking “That weird feeling is probably nothing, but I guess I should get it checked” to being on chemo six weeks letter. I’m so glad I went to the dr. It’s probably nothing, but you have to check.

LoveMySituation · 02/02/2022 22:08

I know you're both right. I don't wear a bra Buddha. But as I say, my house move is being held up, and my current Dr's are awful(small, rural practice) and with peri, they are often swollen and painful as well. It's going to be really hard for me to go through with it too. Few weeks won't make a difference, probably

Thanks all by the way.

All the GP is going to do is to refer you to the hospital. They won’t diagnose or treat. Literally, they have a look so they can describe in the referral and send it off. Please do go.

LoveMySituation · 02/02/2022 22:32

Wouldn't they refer me to the local hospital? Which is 20 miles away, and I can't get to as no transport. At least I have a train station where I'm moving to. Which is also the middle of nowhere and that 'local' hospital is 30 miles.

It's not always true that "a few weeks wont make a difference", OP. There is a particular, rare type of breast cancer that presents as a red rash and swelling, that progresses very fast, so a few weeks would make a lot of difference in that case. You probably don't have it, but only a doctor would know for sure. Please contact your GP tomorrow. As PP says, they will just do a quick check and then refer you on to the breast clinic, but your GP is the gatekeeper to the expertise you need, so you must go.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 02/02/2022 22:43

I know you have barriers with house move and transport etc, but please do make the GP appointment and if need be, they will make a referral to breast clinic. Similar to previous posters, I was seen at the GP, breast clinic three weeks later, chemotherapy 3 weeks after that. It more than likely is nothing to worry about BUT only a professional can tell you that.

As an aside, I have met lots of people during my ‘cancer journey’ who very much regret not seeing a doctor earlier, and wish they could turn back time. I’m really not trying to frighten you, but please, call your GP tomorrow x
