Private Hysteroscopy

Anyone ever paid for private hysteroscopy (camera put in womb) nhs appointment I've been waiting months for just been cancelled again.

@CointreauVersial

I can't comment on the price of a private hysteroscopy, but having had one I would dispute the comments about GA being "overkill". I found it unbearably uncomfortable/painful, worse than labour, and if I ever needed another (which I never will, thank goodness, seeing as I no longer have a uterus!) I would have gone for GA.

If I was paying, maybe I would be gritting my teeth....that's quite a lot of money. Sorry the NHS aren't coming through for you, OP.

I came in here to ask for a price not how unbelievable painful it possible is for some people I've had things done that I've read are painful and didn't feel a thing. Everyone is different

You are entitled to talk about your experience @Porridgeislife but so are others who had different experiences.

LadyGoddiva · 29/01/2022 17:05

@laralou28 If you do go ahead it's worth knowing what you can ask for :)

I said I wanted to try it with nothing and my dr agreed. What we discussed was I could try with nothing, but a local would be ready if needed. If that didn't work, it could be rescheduled for another day.

With private treatment, you are more a 'customer' and can ask for what you want, as long as it's reasonable.

Absolutely, everyone is entitled to talk about their experiences.

I have done nothing more than said I would not do it without pain relief based on my experience. As I said, I’m glad you had a different experience but I’ve got no idea why you are so determined to deny that I, and other women, found it to be very unpleasant.

CointreauVersial · 29/01/2022 17:18

Absolutely, OP! I realise my post was somewhat off-topic; I apologise.

I was reading the thread, and just struck by some of the comments minimising the procedure, and felt I ought to say something. I realise everyone is different, but no-one ever told me what to expect, and I wish I had had some warning.

SunshineCake1 · 29/01/2022 17:25

I had a hysteroscopy last month on the NHS. General anaesthetic as said couldn't have it under sedation. Also had biopsy. Waited just a few days.

LadyGoddiva · 29/01/2022 18:32

@Porridgeislife

In my very first post, about discomfort, I said this All women are different so I'd want the OP to know it's not always painful.

Not always painful is not denying some women find it painful.

I'm afraid you appear to be the one insisting there is only one kind of experience.

Love and peace and enjoy your evening.

No worries! It's made me realise it's probably best being put to sleep so that if anything needs doing they can do it there and then

@laralou28 have you had a HYFOSY / HYCOSY / HSG or a Lap & dye done first? Very rarely now do we offer a hysteroscopy when the above tests have been performed.

Porridgeislife · 29/01/2022 18:46

@LadyGoddiva there are a couple of posters on this thread who had similar experiences to me.

As I said I’m really glad you found it painless, but you seem determined to minimise everyone else’s experience but your own.

Well I've had the dye and X-rays of tubes etc but they are worried I may have scar tissue

Yep me. £2500 pretty much a year ago to the day. Had a GA. Had biopsy taken and a D&C. Cured my agonising 2 week period pain a month and heavy bleeding. Had a Mirena coil fitted during procedure. Feel like a new woman! Think HRT patches have helped with that.

Spire have guideline prices on their website e.g. www.spirehealthcare.com/spire-murrayfield-hospital-wirral/treatments/a-z/hysteroscopy-procedure/

Hi Ladies,

Is there any update with the hysterscopy. I got referred for one in January but I don’t want to do the NHS wait times as I’m nearly 36 and TTC. I’ve managed to get a private one through my fertility clinic. Basically I had a second trimester miscarriage last Feb and haven’t been able to conceive since. My lining didn’t look right on the scan so he wants to do an operative hysterscopy to remove a polyp and a gentle scraping of the lining so it rejuvenates and hopefully grows back better and ready for conception.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Since my loss I’m always thinking the worst and panicking my lining can’t be fixed.

fl1pfl0p87 · 15/04/2022 02:02

@gettingalife would you please be able to let me know who did yours and where? I’m looking for someone at the moment. Thanks

sunnyd67 · 15/04/2022 02:22

@fl1pfl0p87 I had mine at BCRM in Bristol for £1800, no pain relief though

fl1pfl0p87 · 16/04/2022 22:05

Thanks @sunnyd67 did that include everything? Not sure if you need blood tests beforehand or anything?

JaffavsCookie · 16/04/2022 22:15

I had one under the six week wait guidelines ( ie Cancerous)
It was uncomfortable but was tolerable
The staff were fabulous and kept reassuring me and twlling me how well i was doing and managed to remove all of the giant polyps ( which were then sent off for analysis )
I had taken pain relief before i went as detailed on the appointment letter.
I am absolutely not minimising other peoples experiences but it really needs to be pointed out that there is a significant risk to each and every ga, and if you can avoid that, then all to the better.

fl1pfl0p87 · 16/04/2022 22:34

That is so reassuring, thank you @JaffavsCookie and I hope you are well now

JaffavsCookie · 16/04/2022 22:38

Thanks, and yes I am 👍

sunnyd67 · 17/04/2022 01:34

@fl1pfl0p87 I didn't have to do any blood tests, this was to see if uterus is all as it should be due to unexplained infertility, I'm not sure if they do other tests due to different issues.

fl1pfl0p87 · 18/04/2022 14:06

@sunnyd67 than you!

Umbrellaladi · 23/03/2025 16:52

Does anyone have advice about how they got the hysteroscopy covered by private medical please? 🙏🏻
