Breast cancer

I just found out that my cousin aged 37 just got diagnosed with breast cancer. Sadly, her mother (my Aunt) passed away with breast cancer years ago, aged 43.
Should this be a concern for other female relatives? Such as myself, Mother and other female cousins or is there no increased risk?

You might want to be tested for the BRAC gene.

Sorry to hear the news OP. It depends on the type of breast cancer she has. I have a non genetic type.

I have breast cancer too and I’ve just had bloods taken for genetic testing, for the BRAC gene as mentioned by @LadyGoddiva above. She may be offered this; if it comes back as positive and she shares this news with your family it will then be your decision as to what you want to do, undertake testing yourself etc.
I hope your cousin is ok and has lots of support, it’s a really terrible thing to go through, mentally and physically. Sending love.

When I had BC I was tested as I was very Young to have it. I was BRCA2 positive so my family got tested too, including my cousins. It's also important to remember that although it's a breast cancer gene, it can be carried by males in the family as well - turns out mine is through my dad's line.
I hope your cousin is ok.
