Hemorrhagic cyst on right ovary

Hi everyone,

If your reading this, thank you in advance.

I just got diagnosed with a 5.5cm hemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary. I had been having pain for the past two weeks and it was diagnosed via ultrasound today. It also has began to make me walk weird as it hurts when I walk.

My gynaecologist has put me on a birth control specifically for this. She told me to take it for 2 months and I go back in one month to see if it is reducing. If it isn't I may have to have it removed. In the meantime she's told me if I have any severe sudden onset of pain to go straight to the hospital as it can be dangerous and they will have to remove it?

Just looking for support really and any similar experiences.

I had polycystic ovaries, they disappeared with birth control. I can't remember how long it took. X

It's not polycystic ovaries, it's a big 5.5cm blood filled cyst on my right ovary.

Hi I was diagnosed with one of these after a miscarriage. It was 4cm but just under the threshold for treatment. I was told They usually disappear by themselves and only to approach the gp if it's causing pain. Mine was painful when I had my first period after the mc but seems to have calmed down now so I'm hoping it's gone. Hopefully yours will shrink down

Hi OP, you have my sympathy, ovarian cysts can be very painful. I had a 10 cm cyst when I was pregnant in first trimester with my DD. I kept getting told it would go away but in 3 weeks the pain just got worse and I ended up needing emergency surgery as it was causing a torsion. Make sure if the pain gets very bad even if only for a couple of hours and then feels OK that you go to A&E, this is probably because the cyst is twisting the ovary and then going back again, it can cut off blood supply which causes torsion and you can end up loosing ovary. I kept getting told a torsion is very rare and won't happen but it happened to me, I almost got sent home after being admitted in excruciating pain and vomiting but luckily a consultant came in to see me and knew exactly what was going on and went straight for surgery. Luckily pregnancy was fine and didn't loose ovary but consultant confirmed that my ovary had been twisting and untwisting.
I currently have another small one now I'm pregnant again but this isn't causing any bother. Just listen to your body and if pain does get worse make sure you get it checked again. It can be removed locally without the need for a general anaesthetic although mine was too big and they couldn't successfully remove it with local anaesthetic and I had to go under. Hopefully the medication will work for you and you won't need any intervention. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi OP, I had a 10cm cyst diagnosed on my left ovary in November when I suffered a MMC. It was a huge shock at the time, but the hospital didn’t seem overly concerned as it wasn’t causing me any pain. They agreed to book me in for another scan in 3 months time in the hope it’ll have reduced in size/ disappeared x

Thanks for sharing. I'm still not feeling good with it, it actually is uncomfortable when I walk and I'm finding myself walking very slowly. I think if I still feel this way on Monday ill go to my gynaecologist and get another scan to see if it's reduced or got bigger and if it's bigger and may just ask to have it removed. My main concern is damage to my ovary or tube. ☹️

How did they know it was twisting and untwisting what scan

Deedoo · 12/11/2024 15:30

@Sunshine4you how did it go I have this now

Deedoo · 12/11/2024 19:25

@121gigawatts how big was yours

121gigawatts · 12/11/2024 19:31

@Deedoo mine was 10cms. I'm not sure how they knew it was causing a torsion, they did scan it but the pain I felt was nothing like I've ever had before and I've had kidney stones and other painful things (ended up with two c sections so can't comment on pain of giving birth) but it wss unbearable pain, I couldn't stand up and it was making me vomit.

@121gigawatts an they noticed from scan. Gosh it's so big how did it go

Deedoo · 26/11/2024 06:46
