Has anyone had an endometrial ablation?

I am due to have this procedure in a couple of weeks after being on a waiting list for some time.
I am 49 and my periods have been getting heavier and heavier over the last 10 years and I have had polyps too. I have had the polyps removed 3 times but the heavy periods have continued.
I am housebound 4 days a month and flood through. It has made me very anaemic which has made me feel unwell so I do need this procedure.
BUT I am so nervous about this procedure. I do suffer from anxiety which clouds my judgement on things but I am worried about something going wrong or having horrendous pain after (I stupidly googled post ablation syndrome).
Has anyone had this done? How did it go?

Had it 13 years ago, best thing I ever did! I was quite bloated/gassy for a couple of weeks but no problem after that. I also had an ovary removed at the same time as I kept getting cysts. I only had two more periods over the next two years.

I had this procedure done a couple of years ago because of constant bleeding and flooding due to peri menopause (my estrogen and progesterone levels went haywire). I did not have any problems post procedure although both hips hurt a bit. I was a day case and was out of hospital late afternoon.

Thank you, that’s good to know.

Yes, I had it done a few years ago. It took a bit longer than I expected to recover and I had to take a few days off work. My doctor said some people may need the procedure repeating after a few years, but it's been over 3 years and I hardly bleed at all. My periods were so heavy that I was constantly paranoid about flooding through my clothes. I have no issues at all now.

I had it a few years ago- absolutely fine. No problems at all. Up and about once anaesthetic wore off.

I had mine on a Saturday morning, was home for lunchtime. A bit of crampy pain that day, but the nice fuzzy painkillers sorted that out.

The next day I settled myself on the sofa and got waited on hand and foot, then was back at work on Monday morning as normal Smile

Nearly ten years ago, and I haven't had a period since. It really did change my life.

The hospital haven’t given me much information on the procedure, what to expect etc. I have booked the next day off work just in case. I know I am crazy but I’ve opted to have it under a local as general anaesthesia makes me feel poorly for ages, so I am having it done in the gynae department (where I’ve had all my hysteroscopies) rather than in the day surgery unit.

I had one a few years ago. Best thing I ever did - it’s changed my life. No periods and no pain ever since. I had a GA, home next day and a few days off work.

Purplecatshopaholic thanks, that’s good to know.
