Posting for some advice and other womens experiences please.

I'm 53 had a hysterectomy when I was 42 due to fibriods. Ovaries left intact. I know ovaries shrivel after a while but I'd say last few months I've really noticed vaginal dryness, itchy and uncomfortable. Also dryer skin and my hair, which very thick and coarse and tends to be dry anyway, is like straw despite conditioning masks etc.

A few months ago I had recurring UTI and the doctor I spoke to on the phone suggested it could be related to vaginal atrophy.

I need an appointment to discuss obviously but I think topical HRT is the answer ? Are doctors open to prescribing this or am I going to have a fight on my hands ?

Just to say I've been through the sweats,at night, soaking sheets and pyjamas etc and don't get it anymore

TIA

Just want to commiserate. I’m 53 and had womb, ovaries and tubes out last summer. I’m as dry as a crisp!! I have vaginal atrophy, it’s makes sex very difficult 😞 because it’s uncomfortable I’m developing vaginismus.

Anyway I’ve just started using a vaginal moisturiser called “Yes”. It comes in little pessaries, I use one a day. Flipping expensive, although I did read you can have them prescribed on the NHS. They seem to help.

My GP was quite proactive about recommending topical oestrogen, no problem at all. If yours doesn't suggest trying it, ask and be assertive that you'd like to try it!

I’ve had topical oestrogen, I much prefer the yes VM that I’ve bought myself, topical oestrogen was a pill that you insert up but I found sometimes when I put the next due one up that the first was still there and not fully dissolved. Can’t imagine you will have a fight on your hands, I got mine very easily.

I had topical oestrogen and every cell down there (that is most of them!) that is oestrogen sensitive blew up like a balloon. It was like walking with a cauliflower between my legs!!

I second ‘Yes’ moisturiser it’s marvellous stuff. You can definitely get it on prescription.

Vagifem has really helped me. My bladder isn’t as active.

Vaginal atrophy has caused by cervix to look like I’ve never had kids.
I’ve had 3.

I try to use it twice a week.
