Appointment with consultant cervix looks weird

I had my last smear in 2017 when my next was due I was pregnant, baby born in May 2021 and had my smear first week of Jan.

The nurse who performed the smear then called on the doctor because my cervix doesn't look normal. Doctor described it as looking like a coral reef.
They sent the smear off and said it was best to give me a 2week referral to see the hospital for my weird looking cervix.

Appointment all booked and was told not to worry too much it's just a precaution.

I had a call with the results of the smear today she said "there are changes" and now my appointment has been brought forward by two days.

Can anyone tell me what to expect at the appointment. I get hideous anxiety and panic attacks which is diagnosed. I have been able to manage them both to a reasonable level over the years but I always get it in a doctors waiting room, it's so bad I put off going to the doctors unless it's absolutely necessary which this is.

Im just hoping knowing what to expect will ease the anxiety. Partner will have to wait in the car due to covid rules.
Trying not to think the worse.

Thanks OP try not to panic too much, it's great you are being seen so soon, at the appointment they will probably look and depending on what they see they will decide what course of action to take.

I have had two different treatment for changes (CIN3 twice) and after the numbing it wasn't painful. Wear something loose and perhaps a longer top, Take a couple of pads with you and anything that keeps you calm.
My mother had cervical cancer at a young age and has been in full remission since her treatment remember that not every story ends bad.

If they are discussing things in your appointment with you about their findings then ask to record on your phone so you can replay later with your parnter as some things are hard to take in.

Thinking of you xxx

@thetombliboo thank you that's very reassuring, excellent advice about pads etc and recording as I am terrible at taking information like that in,

I'm so glad you've both had good outcomes.

I would also get a hot water bottle and some painkillers at home and plan a nice hill day as if they do biopsy then you could be a bit achey.
There's many positive stories we just tend to hear the bad ones.
Be busy now and try not to get too worked up (fellow anxiety head here.) hopefully this bumps it for you and you may get more helpful replies, all the best xxx

I had this last summer as the nurses doing my smear at my GP thought I had a prolapse because it looked so red and angry and odd. I had had a colposcopy about 15-odd years ago and it turns out it was a result of them taking lots out but I went for a cone biopsy before they diagnosed it and everything was fine.

Best of luck Flowers

I had a similar experience over Christmas. I saw the GP due to irregular bleeding. When she examined my cervix she said it looked 'irregular" and 'patchy'. And she did an urgent 2 week referral. Anyway after a very anxious Christmas I was seen this week. She said I have nabothian follicles as well as cervical ectropian. Neither linked to anything sinister and nothing to worry about. I'd wished I'd heard of that before my appointment! She did take some biopsies and I know I do have some mild cell changes previously. But she was so reassuring. The procedure itself was straight forward (I have had lots if pregnancies so I am quite used to gynae things) and the biopsies didn't hurt, just some mild cramping later on. I hope you are seen soon, the wait is just awful.

I had my appointment today, ended up with two biopsies taken, I was told I have low grade pre cancerous cells and they will decide what to do once the results are back.
