What do I need to know about PCOS? I just got diagnosed and my doctor did not give me sufficient information about it. I was told it was not common in thin girls (I’m 110lbs) & that I should cut down on carbs. My blood work came back normal. I asked her if my pcos is the reason why I’m bloated like 24/7 and she said bloating is not a symptom and she wasn’t sure why I was experiencing that. I was diagnosed with pcos because it came up in my ultrasound and my periods are more than 35 days apart.

Your doctor clearly does not know much if anything really about PCOS and I would not be seeing this person again.

What blood tests were done and on which cycle days?. I would also think your bloodwork showed imbalances between LH and FSH (a common indicator of PCOS). Also blood tests taken on the wrong cycle days can give misleading results.

Have a read of Verity's website as it is informative:-

How did you go about getting diagnosed?

I have PCOS and was diagnosed when I was 16. I wasn't overweight and my blood tests came back normal. My symptoms were acne, excessive hair and random periods. Thankfully after getting my blood results my GP said "well something must be wrong" and sent me for an ultrasound. Within seconds of looking at the scan the consultant said "right, well if you look here you're ovaries look like a bag of pearls. Those are cysts". I still deal with the same symptoms. I use the pill Dianette which used to keep them in check but these days I'm still plucking my beard hair and hoping I get at least a few years between acne and menopause.

This is a good place to start www.verity-pcos.org.uk/
Have you been referred to a gynecologist - one who is a specialist on PCOS? I think endocrinologist dr can also help
