Piles or something else more sinister?

Hoping someone can calm me down! I've suffered with piles on and off for years but have had a recurring problem for over a year when I was pregnant with my little girl. Didn't really have any pain or anything just itching. 4 days ago I went to the toilet and had a msear of blood on the toilet paper which happens on and off but then the next day it was like a gush of blood which I've never had before. The day after and yesterday I went to the toilet and nothing no blood or anything but then this morning the gush of blood is back and I'm panicking! Obviously I will be seeing my gp but they are closed for the holiday just now. I'm really worried about the big C! I have terrible health anxiety so this had made me ill with worry

It'll be piles. Fresh red blood?
Keep the area clean and bung a bit of anusol on it

Vbree · 04/01/2022 19:56

If it's bright red blood it will just be due to the piles. Worth getting checked if you're worried now.

Almost certainly piles but definitely do chat to your GP. Mine are just awful at the moment, you have my sympathy!

What colour was the blood? Bright red indicates a bleed in the anus and more likely haemorrhoids. A black, tarry bleed is an upper gastro intestinal bleed and needs medical attention asap.

I work in the gastro field. Yes it could well be your piles but you should absolutely see your GP and get referred. It’s the only way to confirm it and put your mind at ease.

My mum has those sort of 'flooding' issues with haemorrhoids.

Have you been able to see the GP yet?

Could also be a fissure that’s torn - I’ve had that myself recently and everyone kept saying how painful it must have been but I didn’t even really know I’d done anything and put it down to piles (when I saw the doctor and he told me I was surprised because I didn’t even feel I’d torn anything!)! I must have a high pain threshold… Anyway just an idea. Germaloids cream has been really good.
