Mirena coil advice. Continuous bleeding.

I've had the coil in for 5 months. I've had two bleed free weeks in that whole time. I'm fed up and having it removed tomorrow. Does anyone have any experience of this? If so do you remember how long it took for the bleeding to stop? I REALLY want to have sex with my new partner and I'm guessing he feels the same!

I bled the whole time I had it in. It was awful. I was begging them to remove it for several months.

I can’t remember how long it took to stop bleeding though, sorry, it was too long ago.

It's awful isn't it. Didn't mind so much when I was single but now I've got a (very kind and patient) partner, I would like it to stop!

Took about 8 months for mine to settle down. You can get norethisterone tablets to stop the bleeding in the meantime - either from your gp or online from Superdrug etc. Something I found really helped was a daily dose of vitamin c as apparently it's quite good at regulating periods.
I wanted mine out too as it was really getting me down but I'm glad I stuck with it as now I never have to think about contraception and my periods are so light I only use a panty liner.

Do you mean it took 8 months to settle down with it in? I'm having mine removed and want to know how long the bleeding takes to stop post removal.

Ah right, sorry missed that bit! Well, obviously haven't had mine removed as I stuck with it, but my friend had hers out to ttc and her periods just went back to normal straight away.

I bled every day for ... erm.... about 5 months. I too had an appointment to get it taken out - but before that came round the bleeding suddenly waned. I haven't had more than a very occasional pink discharge since (9 years) which, given the horrendous periods I was having prior to insertion, is nothing short of a miracle.

I had continuous bleeding with the mirena for 9 months then had it removed. The bleeding stopped within a few days. I now have the copper coil and have normal ish periods with no bleeding at all 3 weeks out of 4. Might be worth a try.

I'm just going to go on the pill. I liked the idea of no bleeding and not having to worry about taking tablets every day, but I'm now missing just having a monthly bleed. Continuously contraception is just not for me!

I was the same as you op. I persevered for 7 months. Bled constantly. After it was removed, it settled very quickly.

FlamingoYellow · 28/12/2021 11:00

I removed mine for the same reason (and I also had terrible, persistent acne due to the hormones). The bleeding stopped very soon afterwards. Maybe a few days max?

bleachedgusset · 28/12/2021 11:10

I've had a coil in for nearly three years now and I've been bleeding lightly for nearly three weeks. I've been bleeding on an off the whole time since it was fitted which isn't ideal at all but it's better than having ridiculously heavy periods.

Good luck!
