Urge Incontinence, how to manage without GP??

Hi, I promise I'm not a pee troll. I'm just looking for advice on an issue that has been going on for a while. I've always been prone to a bit of a weak bladder since my late teens and it has gotten a lot worse.
I have symptoms of both urge and stress incontinence and it is the urge that is causing me a lot of problems recently.
I have full accidents about twice a week and many close calls in between. I just get hit by a sudden need to pee and I can't hold it back.
It's causing me a lot of embarrassment and I don't want to go to the GP about this as I'm very ashamed and disgusted with myself. I hate feeling like I'm not in control of my body.
I try to go to the toilet regularly but sometimes if I'm out etc I go too long between or the urge just hits and I have an accident.
I'm in my mid 20's, no kids and I have to carry spare pants and wear pads etc Blush
Is there any way to reduce/prevent this from happening without having to go to doctor?
Thanks

I got this one but it was 3-4 years ago and so was quite a bit cheaper.

@NerrSnerr

I agree the op would be wise seeing a Gp but from what she says this is not a very sudden thing and is something she has lived with for a while. So there is no harm looking at pelvic trainers given that it's very likely what the Gp will say ask after reducing teas/ coffee/booze.

The simple truth is that this is an online forum where people come to ask for general advice about very common problems. Will you be policing all the threads telling people to attend the Gp instead of asking for advice on a forum (that is literally designed to ask other people about things).

Please see your GP. My dad was too embarrassed to do so, and it turned out he had prostate cancer. The cancer is now under good control, but he left it sufficiently late that it had taken its toll on his kidneys, and he's facing dialysis. Given you're female, you definitely don't have prostate cancer, but he would be facing a very different future if he'd seen his GP when he 'just' had continence problems; it really is worth ruling out anything serious.

This advice doesn't replace seeing a doctor AT ALL (I saw a urologist for about a decade as a child/teen...it is better now but still sometimes catches me)

But a couple of things that help me;

  1. Make sure you empty your bladder fully - this means a while of getting into the habit of having your wee, hanging about for 5 mins, and then trying to wee again - I could often "go again" but over time got better at getting it all out in one go...
  1. When the urge strikes me I stop everything and count inside my head - I focus on nothing but the counting - often this will help the instant urge fade enough for me to wake my way to the toilet
