HPV & inflamed cervix

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with at least some peace of mind.

I had a positive HPV diagnosis 2 years ago with no abnormal cells. My check up last year showed the same, it was still there but still no abnormal cells. I had my latest smear yesterday and I'm waiting for the results, I believe 90% of cases clear up on their own within 2 years.

The nurse told me that I have some inflammation of the cervix which she would report and asked me not to worry as it's common but she has to report it.

I've googled it (bad idea, I know), but inflammation seems to be linked to HPV progressing... I know that as I have attended every smear if there are any abnormal cells developing we would have caught them early but, im scared.

I've also unfortunately had three miscarriages in the past three years (and a healthy happy 2 year old)! Could inflammation be linked to miscarriage? My last one was only in August this year.

Please help I'm so confused!

Thank you x

I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriages, Maxymoo1. Flowers

I just had abnormal cells and HPV on a smear test, and have been booked in for a colposcopy. If your nurse has reported an inflamed cervix then you might be referred for a colposcopy too - I recall that it is one of the indications for further testing. The great news is that you're being monitored and in good hands. If there are any abnormal cells they will have a plan, whether it is to keep an eye on things or to remove them. You are a loooong way from anything serious! There is no need to panic.

I'd also say, from the reading I've been doing recently, that HPV can sometimes become active in times of stress. I don't know whether HPV has any link with miscarriages; but it sounds like you've had a rough (and also rewarding) time in the last few years, so do take care of yourself. Bear

@SpeedReader thank you for your reply, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply back but your post really did help me.

So I had my most recent smear a few months ago, the consultant told me he was confident it was mainly CIN1 and to come back in 12 months, he gave me the green light to try for a baby. Today a letter came through the door with my biopsy results, saying that although my colposcopy was 'excisional' ie, they removed the cells, it turns out it was mainly CIN2 and so they want me to go back in October.

I feel pretty emotional about it, my husband and I were trying for baby number 2 and as silly as this sounds in the grand scheme of things, I really wanted my children to be close ish in age and if I got pregnant now they would be almost 4 years apart. I am high risk for future miscarriages now that I have had 3 (40% miscarriage risk) so this just adds to what is already emotional for me. I am pretty sure this means I cant try for a baby until the end of this year. Just reaching out incase anyone has some words of wisdom or anything that might make me feel a bit better. Thank you x
