How safe is HRT cream?

how safe would this cream be to use? I’ve never had any cancers, I’m 38. It’s too long winded to explain why I need this cream but I just want to know how big if any the risks are as it seems quite mixed online. Has anyone chatted to a gynae about it for example?

I haven’t had any cancers/clots etc

TIA

I was thinking the ovestin 0.1 cream but if anyone can suggest an even gentler way to rise my estrogen it would be great

I think the safety depends on what your etrogen levels are already.
If unnaturally* low, the cream is safer than if you were trying to boost already health levels to a 'too high' level.

Is something you should get qualified medical advice on, not rely on Internet randoms.

*sex dependent

Unfortunately I haven’t been left a choice so I need to do my own research on this one. I can’t afford to see a consultant and my gp is useless. Thanks though that makes sense

The Menopausal Not Mad website is a great source of information, along with the linked Facebook group. Topical oestrogen is a good way to ease the symptoms of low oestrogen in the genital area, if you are taking a systemic oestrogen and you have your uterus, you need to take a progesterone supplement too to protect the lining of your uterus from becoming too thick.

TheCatInTheChat · 05/12/2021 08:10

Depends what you’re talking about. If you’re talking about topical vaginal oestrogen - very safe. If you’re talking about topical systemic HRT such as oestrogel - still very safe for most women (but women with a uterus need progesterone too). Impossible to comment further without more details. Suggest seeing a proper doctor.
My menopause doctor website is very helpful.

What exactly do you want to use Ovestin for @Elliethebear?

(I have used it for 15 years.)

Ovestin is for vaginal symptoms.

You can only get it on prescription so not sure why or how you are hoping to use it.

NONE is absorbed into the body. Zilch.

It stays where you put it and it is a TINY amount.
It's so weak that if you used it for a whole year (twice per week) it would only be the same amount of estrogen as a small dose of estrogen in ONE daily tablet.

You sound worried and confused.
How can we help more?

Is this a sex issue, libido, has someone said you need estrogen?

Bagelsandbrie · 05/12/2021 12:01

Ovestin is extremely low in oestrogen. To the point I don’t need to stop it when I have tests for my autoimmune issues as it doesn’t affect the results - whereas I have to stop oestrogel (topical oestrogen).

Wink Name change fail or new poster to the thread?

Truly, @Elliethebear, if you need help on this kind of thing, ask away. I saw another of your posts on MH and it may be that your anxiety is linked to hormones.

Cocostardust · 05/12/2021 13:14

Bit strange that you’ve taken the time to read my old threads but thanks anyway. And no this is nothing to do with my anxiety

JinglingHellsBells · 05/12/2021 13:21

@cocostardust I did it to see if I could help you as I've professional experience in writing on women's health issues. You gave the impression you were embarrassed or similar about why you needed estrogen.

If you feel you need estrogen at 38, there is clearly a reason, so please ask your GP to refer you to a specialist for help.
