Hi
Hope I’m doing this right!!
I have been suffering for 4 weeks with vertigo on and off.
Attacks seem to be in the morning or in the night when rolling over in bed.
However I am on betahistine after being on steroids, antibiotics and other ant dizzy tablets.
The last week every other day I’ve been feeling dizzy and lightheaded(am able to do housework etc and not throwing up light I was with previous vertigo episodes)
Just wondering if anyone has had anything similar as really low in mood with this as unable to work or drive or do anything normal it seems!
Have had mri and waiting results and been so go and a&e department and no one really seems to know. Hence coming on here after Googling!!
Thank you

if you have facebook try joining menieres support group uk only.

You might not have menieres but they will be able to give you support and coping strategies.

kimlo · 18/11/2021 17:37

sorry thats uk only . I didn't mean to bold it.

I have bouts of BPPV , it used to come and go every few months for a day lasting for minutes at a time. Most recently it came and lasted for over a week , totally put my life upside down, couldn’t drive the kids to school never mind run a house. I dread it ever coming bk . You have my sympathies op

yougottasmilesobright · 18/11/2021 21:11

@Loword sorry, I should have explained more! Vertigo (spinning head when I turned over in bed, getting on a low settee, couch or looking up too quickly). It was diagnosed as BPPV, loose crystals in ear canal and definitely helped by the Epley manoeuvre

Begonias · 18/11/2021 21:26

I had this a few years ago. It truly was awful. Every Time I opened my eyes or tried to move the dizziness would crank up a notch and the horrendous nausea that came with it was unbearable. I had to lean against the walls to make it to the bathroom as I kept walking sideways (kids found it hilarious). Even then it felt like the walls were moving in a different direction to the ground.
I was given medication and had the epley manoeuvre done by the GP and at home husband did it. Made me feel worse for an hour or two but after that it did help. It lasted a week but can honestly say it was the worst feeling ever. Even now if I get a dizzy spell it sets off alarm bells, don't ever want to go through that again.

Betahistine......
They don't seem to be working, 7th day & feel worse now! Absolutely awful after 2 pints of shandy one evening, so won't be doing that again !....
Not sure if to carry on or percevere!
Tried lots of other tablets & exercises , nothing works!!
Help !! 🥴

Loword · 11/09/2022 20:17

@Bev00 it took me a good month for betahistine to start working, and even then.. I was taking 32mg 3 times a day because my doctor didn’t know what else to do with me.
what dose are you on?
why are you taking them? Have you been diagnosed with menieres or have you got dizziness?

OP posts:
Bev00 · 12/09/2022 07:27

16 mg 3 times a day, yes they have said menieres! It starts with motion, usually flying , boats , this time was treadmill at the gym !
Seems to get abit better then worse within an hour of taking tablets!...
Tried the epley manoevre, makes me feel sick but again helps abit after a couple of hours ! But doesn't go , tried so many tablets , have suffered for years off/on but seems worse this time ! So depressing 😪😪

Loword · 12/09/2022 10:49

When I saw my doctor he said, yes I’m sorry you have menieres. I then went private and he would not diagnose menieres as he said it’s a long process with lots of tests.
I was dizzy on and off for 6 months and felt like stopping betahistine numerous times in the beginning because I too felt it was making it worse. But stick with it, maybe speak to your doctor to increase the doseage for now.
I was on it for about a year In total, very very slowly brought myself off of it(with doctors agreement of course)
what really helped me was a chiropractor that specialises in dizziness… where do you live? He was in Woking. He gave me numerous exercises to do and for a good 6 months I did exercises every morning and night and once I went back to work if I ever felt a bit of dizziness coming on I would do the exercises.
I still get occasional dizzy times now but more when I’m stressed or tired. Dizziness is the hardest thing to disagnose and I learnt a lot about it online.
have you lost hearing? My hearing in my left ear went and I had awful tinnitus in the ear for 6 months. I was convinced I would have to live with it and so depressed… but here I am, back to normal and happy again… sorry for the long message but hope it helps.

You're right epley doesn't work, makes me feel even more nauseous 🤢 ended up in A&E yesterday as felt so bad , checked everything as they thought it might be heart related as i get chest pains to , but they put that down to stress /anxiety , changed tablets to stematil 3 times a day , after taking 2 doses woke up this morning alot less dizzy so hoping they'll be better ! Fingers securely crossed !

Bev00 · 17/09/2022 08:09

Also I've had tinnitus for years , suffered bad ear aches as a child , same as my Dad , aunty who both suffered in childhood & now ! Can be hereditary, so I was told yesterday! ...
No hearing loss , but dizziness all the time !.....

Starrrz · 06/11/2023 20:58

@Loword how are you now? Do you have MD? X

Starrrz · 06/11/2023 21:08

@Bev00 how are you now ?

Loword · 13/11/2023 22:12

I’m fine now… can’t remember what I’ve already written on this post… but took about 3/4 months to go. Saw a chiropractor that specialises in vertigo and said that it can happen quite frequently to people. I did exercises every morning and night(just googled some), took betahistine and both seemed to help. Even 7 months on I would occasionally get a dizzy spell come on at work and I would just stop and do a few exercises and it would go.
it was horrendous and I was sure it was MD… I was dizzy every other day for 3 months but it does get better🤞🏻

I had this last year caused by an ear infection. I had two days of bad vertigo, then my vertigo improved but I lost my balance. Had to hold on to something to walk around the house. I could not go outside for about 2 weeks. When I did go outside I walked a very short distance, very slowly with someone beside me. This lasted another couple of weeks with gradual improvement. I walked outside every day, increasing the time every day. It was very difficult and I was so anxious people thought I was drunk. By 6/8 weeks I was much improved but it was 3/4 months before I felt fully back to normal. It really was a horrible experience.
You will get better.

Starrrz · 14/11/2023 10:03

@Loword thankyou for the reply :) im glad your fine now!
are you still taking the medication?

TheMindfulMum · 14/11/2023 17:24

May I ask, those who have had this, as well as the dizziness, do you feel pressure in the front of your head and over your eyes? I'm on week 4 of dizziness and it's now daily but with pressure towards the front of my head (but not a headache) and pressure behind eye too. It's miserable and I'm feeling so down with it

Loword · 14/11/2023 22:40

No it was on medication for almost a year as I was too scared to come off it… I very very slowly lowered the dose of it
