HPV virus.

I got the result of my smear today and it said that I have high risk HPV virus but no abnormal cells.

I'm confused because I have not had sex with anyone for 5 years and the leaflet says that the virus normally clears the body within 2 years.

Does anyone have any idea why this has happened? Is there a way to make my body clear this virus?

I'm assuming that if I became sexually active again I could pass it on.

It lies dormant OP, I got the same result a few weeks ago and usually it will lie dormant and then when it 'activated' it will go within 2 years ish. Yes a sexual partner could get it, a condom reduces the risk but there is a risk with skin to skin contact around that area still, but 90% of people will have HPV at some point in their lives Thanks

Pp is right. It's a virus that lies dormant. Can flare up. They 'think' it'll clear within 2 years, but I'm not sure whether that means you're cured or it just lies dormant.

It's what they vaccinate teenage girls and boys against now.

Don't feel stigmatised though. Most sexually active people have had it. Make and female. In women though it can lead to cervical changes. You do not have to declare it with a partner (new or old), but obviously if you choose to, make sure they understand how common it is, otherwise they may judge you (and very very wrongly!).

I had the same diagnosis a while ago but it did cause some low level cell changes. I've now cleared it after a few years. I did read up on vitamins which can help. Might have been mumbojumbo, but it did clear it! You may be asked to move onto annual smear tests.

Good luck.

It can lie dormant for decades occasionally flaring up. I've seen loads of posts from ppl married 10-20 years suddenly testing positive
I'm pretty sure pregnancy caused my current flare up

Gingerkittykat · 15/11/2021 15:49

Thanks for the reassurance that it is just a flare rather than something sinister.

I don't know if I would feel comfortable being sexually active with someone new knowing I was actively carrying the virus.

I have to have a smear repeated in a year and am thankful my cells are normal so far.

Thanks for sharing this mildlymiffed- I’m on year 3 of waiting for low level cells to sort themselves out. Still holding out hope!

It took me 4 years to clear the virus. But it can be done!

@mildlymiffed I would be interested to know what vitamins were worth trying.

sunlovingcriminal · 05/12/2021 20:08

I took a photo for a friend and luckily had it saved to my photo reel. These were the vitamins that I researched and took

Ensure that you check any allergens and do your own research before taking anything...
