Getting old - need varifocals

Not sure where best to post this, but I've heard this is common in women as they hit 4o, so thought I'd post in Women's Health.
I've a history of eye problems. I'm a glasses wearer, can't wear contacts due to previous eye issues. I now need varifocals (but my regular prescription has reduced quite dramatically and it is likely that in 6 months time I may need a prescription change again). Due to light sensitivity I also need prescription sunglasses. I'm looking at in the region of £500 for glasses and sunglasses...until someone mentioned Asda, and even at their most expensive, I'll be looking at £180 for 2 pairs. Obviously this is tempting, but I want a good quality lens with good peripheral vision. Does anyone have any experience with Adsa varifocals? Do you know if you can pay more to upgrade them to have better peripheral vision? Am I going to regret going cheap and end up paying twice? Any advice will be gladly received. Thanks

I paid through the nose for varifocals.from my local opticians....180 for a frameless frame then another 300 or more for varifocal lenses. The problem being that your long sighted prescription changes relatively frequently and I couldnt face replacing my lenses at that price annually.

So I went with asda.. I complaints. I have the basic lens that they give you for varifocals and they have been fine for over a year.

That should say NO complaints.

@DrMadelineMaxwell how is your peripheral vision with the asda glasses? At Asda prices I can afford for my prescription to change (which I think it will)

Varifocal user here with a side order of astigmatism. I've had three pairs of specs over the past few years from Asda with no issues. Much cheaper than Specsavers. It's a no-brainer

@Oldandcobwebby what is the peripheral vision like in the asda ones? Do you know if you can upgrade or if they only do one level of varifocal?

Peripheral is fine for me. I vaguely remember being asked about an upgrade. If offered, I would always take it with varifocals without a second thought

If I recall, when I asked about the possibility of paying to upgrade for a wider field of peripheral vision they told me at my branch that they automatically use the higher lens anyway.

I noticed more of a need to move my head to keep the best vision but I think that comes more with the change of lens strength as I need a stronger close vision prescription now. And it was something I got used to very quickly.
