Odd Cycles...I Think?

I'm having a very weird set of cycles (I think they're cycles, anyway), and wondered if anybody had any experience/advice...

I had a 'proper' bleed 85 days ago - lasted 5 days, as usual. Since then, I've had a couple of mornings of spotting on days 36/37, and then on days 71/72/73 - but only spotting and only in the mornings. Actually, on day 72 I had a tiny streak of blood (apologies) on my underwear, but otherwise no need for a pad or anything like that, only when wiping.

I am currently trying to get pregnant via at home donor insemination and the last insemination was on day 18 (after the 'proper' bleed). Pregnancy test taken after the first spotting was negative, as was the one taken after the second spotting. I've been nauseated and tired, but my IBS has been playing up, so I suspect it's linked to that.

I'm just stumped as to why I've only had spotting at times I would've expected (roughly - have PCOS, so cycles aren't always regular, although never this long) a period.

Had anybody experienced anything like this? Should I be concerned - it feels like an overreaction to contact the GP about it, but doesn't seem 'right' either...just confused I guess!

Hi. I had similar issues last year. I was eventually diagnosed with pcos (but without the cysts!) So it may be the pcos causing it but any mid cycle bleeding I would see a gp about. My GP took it very seriously and did some tests herself and referred me to gynae. It's better to be safe than sorry x

Its no overreaction to contact the GP about this but you may be referred onto a gynae. These types of issues are well outside a GPs general remit.

Its likely that you are not ovulating regularly, if at all currently, with such cycle lengths and your previously diagnosed PCOS is indeed the root cause of all this now. Spotting can be caused by an overall lack of progesterone, again common with PCOS.

Are you under the care of a gynae re PCOS at this time?. You should be.

Thanks for your replies.

No, not under gynea for the PCOS - have only ever had one appointment there, where I was told to lose weight. I'm prescribed Metformin by the GP.

Thank you for the reassurance I shouldn't think I'm overreacting by contacting the GP, I worry I'm just being a nuisance, particularly as nobody has ever seemed to want to address the PCOS (other than to diagnose it - was sent for an ultrasound, the tech there said there were cysts on both ovaries, and then it was on my record, no follow up; I asked for the Metformin a couple of years ago, GP was fine with prescribing).

I've moved since then, maybe the new GP will be more helpful?
