Constant period - can GP help?

I was on tbe contraceptive injection for about a year. I still had periods but they were very light. During this period my body was under a lot of strain with a chronic pain condition

I stopped the injection as I was on a cocktail of medications and I just wanted to be "natural" (I know that doesn't make real sense).

I didn't have a period for 5 months I believe my physical stress was a factor here aswell as the contraceptive. 3.5 weeks ago it started and I've had cramp and bled daily since then. It's all fresh looking blood.

I've got up to date smear results.

Is this actually anything a GP can help with or is it usually just a case of running its course?

Both. Any gynae concerns should be run past a GP, but chances are it will settle in a week or so. Still see/speak to GP though. You don't mention age, so also possibly peri menopause messing with hormone levels on top of it?

Yes I bled for 3 months and was given something acid to stop the bleeding. It’s not happened since but that was two babies ago!

Ah no im only 31 so I don't think that's an issue.
Thank you. Maybe I give it another week then that will be a month of bleeding....

Yes, norethisterone will put a stop to it

doadeer · 30/10/2021 20:27

I've taken that in the past - norethisterone that is but I only took it to stop a period temporarily... Ie when I went on a holiday. Won't my period just start again if I take it as soon as I stop?

I took it for a while - the implant did not agree with me - and eventually it settled down.

Could it be a polyp?

BabyYodasGotMyTeacher · 30/10/2021 21:33

I had similar: came off the combined pill, had no period for 4 months, then a very light few days, a month puff then 29 days of bleeding (Inc some very heavy), 13 days off and then more bleeding.

Had enjoy at that point and went back onto mini pill but in the meantime had 2 blood tests and an ultrasound which showed a possible polyp so have gynae referral for January.

So short answer - yes worth talking to GP!
