Pregnancy thrush driving me mad

Hello all,

I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from thrush for almost three months. It is now making me utterly miserable.

I have tried 4 lots of Canesten pessaries (spread over the three month period) and God knows how much of the external cream which initially helped slightly but now doesn't seem to help anymore.

Went to the nurse at my GP surgery today to do yet another swab and she wouldn't prescribe me anything else as I said my discharge is green (has been green the whole time, it does not smell) and so it doesn't sound like thrush (despite my last four swabs testing positive for thrush...).

She has now worried me that I have some kind of terrible infection. Can anyone please reassure me that they also had green discharge when they had thrush?

I would also be massively grateful for any advice on finally getting rid of this bloody thrush! Never experienced it before this pregnancy and I am so eager to see the back of it.

Did you have a course of pessaries each time as you often need to use one each day for a longer period of time rather than just using one on a single occasion

No, I did ask them for a course of pessaries this time as they seem so reluctant to prescribe them for some reason and they are expensive to keep buying them myself (£12 each time which soon tots up) but she wouldn't give me anything and said to speak to my midwife instead. Not sure what she thinks the midwife can do for me, I thought it is surely more of a GP problem? Perhaps not. If this swab comes back as positive for thrush then I am going to put my foot down and ask for pessaries over a few days as they do seem to help but the problem comes back with a vengeance a couple of weeks later

I don't have any advice for green discharge except ask for other tests to be on the safe side!
As for the thrush, it sounds a bit hippy, but I've had thrush maybe 3/4 times in my life and I've treated it with plain natural yoghurt each time and it's gone away no time! I just apply it to the area and wear a pad and then go about my business for the day and wash away when I need the toilet next (works best overnight of course though). I also make sure to drink a ton of water and not have anything with too much sugar (no fruit juice, biscuits/cake etc).

I had thrush when pregnant and also treated it with live yogurt. Midwife advised to dunk a tampon in it and insert, leave for a good few hours. Maybe check with your midwife first though as it’s been several years since I was pregnant and advice may have changed Smile

Thank you very much for your advice. I will definitely invest in some plain yoghurt then

Please don't put yoghurt into your vagina. It's really not recommended anymore. It was all the rage when I was a teen. Hopefully the swabs will tell you what's up.
