hashimoto's disease

Hello, I'm pretty sure I have hashimoto's disease. I'm now freaking out as from what I have read, it increases my chance of getting thyroid cancer. Can anyone who know a bit about this give me some reassurance? Is hashimoto's disease fairly common? Thank you xx

Very common. I have had it for 17 years and it's very well managed once I got the meds right. Try not to worry. Cancer risk exists for so many things - you'll drive yourself crazy if you worry about all of them. See your GP and go from there.

Thank you. So you've actually got hashimoto's disease and not just an underactive thyroid? Xxx

Yes, I have the antibodies. Hashimotos is the most common cause of an undractive thyroid. It's not a biggie as long as you get the thyroxine sorted fairly quickly. Don't be fobbed off by GPs - they can be reluctant to treat it until it gets very bad.
