Incontinence surgery advice?

I've got a cancellation appointment on Monday with a consultant to talk about surgery options for stress incontinence
I'm a regular gym goer so wondered if anyone has experience of exercise after an op too.
I was given leaflets that colposuspension and sling and bulking injection are the options. I'm not sure which one is for me.
The ops seem similar in efficacy.
The bulking agent is less effective but less risky.
Any advice or experience?

I'm interested too as I'm currently seeing a consultant for the same issue and I also go to the gym. I'm being referred for urodynamics, really nervous about it, it sounds mortifying!

I've had the urodynamics.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Hi I've had the sling procedure, it has made a huge difference to me. Initially I was completely dry, prior to op if I coughed or vomited my bladder emptied :(
Chronic cough due to asthma means I should have shares in Tena but so much better than before

Thanks for your reply @trumpetpants how long were you completely dry?
Did you get side effects?
How long was your recovery?
Can you lift heavy things or jump?

Hi, hope your apt goes well. I recovered pretty quickly and was dry for a good few years after. I can jump and lift heavy things, I didn't have any side effects x

Fantastic. Gives me hope!
Appointment today.
Can I ask - did you have any choice in what procedure to have? And what reason did you have the sling vs the colposuspension?

I have had urethral sling surgery about 6 or 7 yrs ago & only have a very occasional urge-incontinence, like at the front door trying to find the key 🤣.
It was quite a lengthy consult process though to determine that pelvic floor/Kegal exercise was not enough. So I saw pelvic physiotherapist, had urodynamic tests, kept charts & did more Kegels. Apparently I had significant adhesions from lots of surgery's & it was considered that they contributed to my incontinence.

My surgeon used a piece of my abdomen wall/ligament - sorry, cannot remember the correct term rather than an artificial sling/mesh of which I personally am very happy with (noted only because of various concerns about mesh problems post surgery for some). He told me that he thought the surgery effects would probably only "last" about 5 years but I'm happy do far, & can happily ignore the shelves of Tena in the supermarket 🙂
