IV sedation with LA or GA? What's the difference?

I'm due to have a hysteroscopy and polypectomy procedure. I want to know what is the difference between having IV sedation and LA or having GA.
I've never had either. Only LA for dental work.
For the Sedation, do you feel anything? What's it like? Sorry for all the questions, but I am very nervous. Thank you Daffodil

Sedation is like sleeping lightly, i had it for my wisdom teeth removal, dont really remember much even straight after

GA is more risky for you, you're completely out, but to be honest from an end user point of view, there is not much in it

As someone who has had uterine polyps removed I would have this done under GA. There is no way would I have considered local anaesthesia for such internal procedures.

Thanks for the advice I have never had GA before I'm really scared.

I really don't know what to do. I'm sure the anaesthetist will advise HmmConfused

Why are you scared of a GA?
I have had several, DD has had loads.

You will be fine.

I was sedated for a endoscopy to remove gallstones from my bile duct, I woke up half way through. It wasn't the best experience but I was in safe hands. 3 weeks later I had GA for gallbladder removal and was absolutely fine (not my first but didn't wake up crying like I usually do).

It's normal to feel apprehensive, but you will be in the hands of experienced professional who administer GAs all the time. Don't be afraid to ask any questions. No question is a stupid one. Good luck.

Has your dr offered you the choice?
I'm just asking as the RCOG does say in their guidance that it's preferable not to offer sedation for this, and to offer a local or GA.

I have had 3 GAs for various things and had a hysteroscopy/biopsy with nothing. My choice on the day.

I would always avoid a GA at all costs unless essential, because of the risks and also the time taken to prepare for it ( not eating , not driving afterwards, having adult care for 24 hours after.)

It's your choice of course.
