Discharge after colposcopy??

Ayeshaxxx · 03/10/2021 22:21

I had a colposcopy with 2 biopsy’s taken on Monday. I was told to expect discharge between 3-5 days after. Tomorrow will be a week and I still have brown watery discharge that smells like blood. Would you say this is normal or should I call the doctors tomorrow?
I have pain but that’s half the reason I went to have the colposcopy in the first place so not sure if it’s related.

You need to speak to the doctor / surgeon. Probably nothing to worry about. Did you get feedback during or after the colonoscopy?

Ayeshaxxx · 03/10/2021 23:03

Literally nothing they were quite rubbish to be honest. Just said they didn’t see anything of major concern but still took biopsys. I’ve been in a lot of pain anyway just throughout my body been speaking to the doctors every week for nearly 6 weeks.
I’m only 23 and never had a smear think the gynaecologists were quite reluctant to even see me as my abnormal bleeding was “only a month” and they don’t usually see young people with these issues apparently for such a short period of bleeding. Even though I thought I was going through the correct route considering symptoms

If you get no luck with the doctors have you thought about going to your local family planning/ sexual health clinic as I know that my gynaecologist works there as-well so maybe you might find a trained gynaecologist at one off these clinics.

Kocduw · 04/10/2021 07:42

The good news is there was nothing obvious like enlarged polyps or anything more sinister. If you speak to the doctor, I would ask if there was a possibility it was something 'upstream'.

Ayeshaxxx · 04/10/2021 08:55

@Kocduw if it was something more serious such as the c word do you think they’d be able to tell by looking? Just as I’ve been crapping myself with worry past few weeks had bleeding after sex back pain leg pain and been trying to convince myself it’s not serious

@Hill1991 I did call my local umbrella clinic -I presume that’s what you mean- but their response was basically unless I have an Sti they can’t see me and go through my gp to get a gynaecologist x

I'd call the clinic that did the colposcopy for advice. When I had my biopsies, the bleeding only lasted a day or so but it was sore and took a while to heal.

Kocduw · 04/10/2021 09:15

I had a tumor which was advanced so easy to spot although i left the colonoscopy not really understanding. If was a mobile clinic in a carpark.

I went to see the doctor to get clarity and was passed on to the colo-rectal surgeon.

You need to speak to the doctor, but they would have made you aware if any problems. I will take a few days for the biopsy results to come back aswell.

As nothing has been flagged up initially, I would see that as positive.

You do need to get to the bottom of it though. If all results come back negative, you could push dor a CT scan?

Kocduw · 04/10/2021 09:17

And don't read Dr Google. It wont help if you are a worrier and isn't representative of your profile or circumstances.

Ayeshaxxx · 04/10/2021 09:20

@MrsPnut I might try that thank you I’ll see if it continues today. Tried to get hold of my gp this morning but phone like engaged for the past hour so doubt I’ll get anything anyway

@Kocduw oh sorry to hear! How are you now?

Yeah I’ve been told 3 weeks for the biopsy results to just a bit of an anxious wait. The only other thing I can think that may be causing this is the depo injection as I think some of my symptoms are similar to the side effects. It’s just the post intercourse bleeding that concerned me more

MrsPnut · 04/10/2021 09:32

@Kocduw The OP had a colposcopy not a colonoscopy. Similar area but not quite. It’s more difficult to spot issues on the cervix than the colon.

Kocduw · 04/10/2021 09:43

Apologies. That's my dyslexia. Advice is the same, keep pushing the doctor for feedback and escalate if no answers are forthcoming.

Sorry if TMI here’s a pic of what’s happening today would you say this is normal?

Got a letter-
Not with my results but just stating how the appointment went. Said they saw evidence of congenital transformation zone? Anyone heard of this?

Appin · 15/10/2021 22:29

That tissue looks similar to how it looked for me after biopsy, and with pain too. I told gp I'd had biopsy and shared those symptoms and they gave me antibiotics for infection.

Appin · 15/10/2021 22:32

Also, congenital transformation zone is likely to mean changing cells. These would normally be picked up in a smear. I'm sure they'll be in touch with you soon to discuss what these mean for you. It may be nothing to worry about.

If you're worried and going through this process I can recommend visiting the Jo's Trust website, they have forums which are really helpful and lots of expert advice.

I had discharge for weeks after my colposcopy; about six weeks I think. It was a fecking pain!
