HELP! My fanjo is on fire!!

I'm extremely embarrassed to share this but I'm desperate for some advice! I gave myself a chemical burn yesterday while attempting to groom my lady bits and I've been in absolute agony since Blush I'm currently 39 weeks pregnant (I know, worst timing ever) and thought it would be a great idea to use veet for a quick spring clean to prep myself for labour. Mind you, I've used hair removal creams in the past without an issue but this time washed everything off within the first 10 seconds of applying because of how badly it stung & hurt.

I was weeping & bleeding for a good hour or so afterwards, it's just very sore & swollen down there now :( I honestly can't go to the loo without wincing in pain. To make matters worse, I've got a midwife appointment later today and I'm dreading to do the routine urine sample (wth do I tell the midwife if she offered me a sweep?! my due date is a week away & my fanjo looks like it's been attacked by a swarm of bees Sad) I've tried applying barrier creams & vaseline (as advised online) but I feel like that made it worse. What should I do??

Poor you. I think your genital area will be more sensitive when pregnant which is why this has happened.

For someone going through the menopause I can sympathise with fiery-fanjo (but obviously not as bad as bleeding with the burn)

First of all re the MW, I would come clean and explain what you've done. It probably won't be the first time the ME will have seen someone do this snd may have done great advice about soothing it.

Other than that I would wear double knickers and try an ice pack (I use a long one designed for tires eyes!) in between the knickers. You can also get a calcimine cream with added moisturiser in it that helps. Mountains of sudacream can help too but first you need something cold.

Hope it eases soon.

Actually after re-reading "weeping and bleeding" sounds quite serious. I think you might have a chemical burn. Could you see your dr?

PatsArrow · 21/09/2021 08:02

Sorry for typos. One of them was Calomine cream. However now I'm thinking you need more medical attention first.

I should think the midwife would be the ideal person to ask. She might be able to check what sort of antihistamine would be safe to take to reduce the swelling and inflammation. Otherwise ice packs and barrier cream are about all I can suggest.

When your weeing at home, get a jug of water and pour it over yourself as you are weeing . It will stop the burn.

Agree with pp that if you have a chemical burn you should definitely ask the midwife to look as you might need medical input.

Thank you so much for your response! I'll try using a cold pack & will give my gp a ring today (the bleeding/weeping happened an hour afterwards yesterday but it didn't last for long, still there's no harm in bringing it up to my midwife/gp like you've suggested in case it's infected or something)

You poor thing. Definitely seek advice.

In terms of healing I would do regular salt baths to prevent infection and promote healing. Air out as much as possible. I wouldn't put anything on it unless advised to do so. Use a jug of water when going to the loo and pat dry with kitchen roll.

Lots of vitamin C and zinc ideally from foods. Sunflower seeds and pine nuts are good for skin healing. Rest and take it easy.

Definitely don't use E45 cream on it. It's akin to having a thousand fire ants dancing in acid soaked ice skates on your skin. Yep been there!!
