Migraines (with aura) - Q on contraception

How long ago would someone need to have had a migraine with aura, for that to be classed as relevant when it comes to taking the combined pill? I’ve just been reading a review on studies of the increased risk of stroke of using COC with a history of migraines, so was wondering. Is it lifelong?

Hi this is me too, it is considered lifelong which affected the type of pill I could take.

My gp told me to never ever accept anything other than the progesterone only pill due to the risk. It’s not my area of practice but seemed like good advice as migraines can strike anytime

Yeah…. I’m really not convinced, having read the data.

I have had two migraines in my whole life, one 9 years ago and one 11 years ago. (I’m 30 now.) Both were brought on, as far as I can tell, by sudden and extreme diet/lifestyle changes. I don’t get headaches, menstrual headaches, nothing. I didn’t even really get severe headaches after the auras, hence now reading up and second-guessing myself… but all the GP/nurse hears is “migraine with aura” and that’s it.

My marriage is seriously suffering because every POP leads to constant bleeding (in fairness, that’s proved to be a very effective contraceptive side effect!), we don’t like condoms etc. Larcs have so far also led to bleeding. I’m at the end of my tether.

Sorry, not related to the original question- just ranting.
