Hi has anyone else had reoccurring UTI infections? What was your outcome? Did you get refered and checked to find out what was causing them? I keep getting them recently. Thanks

I thought I had this once a few years ago but it turned out the first lot of antibiotics I got didn't do the trick (was only a 3 day course) so it kept improving slightly then coming back. Mine eventually turned into a kidney infection and I ended up on antibiotics for 10 days which cleared it up!

Having written that I'm not sure how helpful that information is to you, but it could be a possibility that it's the same infection that hasn't properly cleared?

babysunshine20 · 12/09/2021 20:00

Thanks for replying. Everytime I get a UTI infection. I get given antibiotics for 7 days, 2 tablets a day to take. I think it's called Nitrofourtin. It normally takes 3 days until the infection is improving and by the time i have finished the course of Antibiotics, my UTI is gone. The thing is I drink loads of water everyday. I don't use bath products apart from Dove soap. I'm going to ring the drs tomorrow morning for some more Antibiotics. Maybe ask for different ones. As I was on these antibiotics in July and again in August. Now it's September
In so much and it's so uncomfortable 😭😭 I can't understand why it's happening again. A few years ago I was getting getting them alot and was refered and I had to have a scan on my kidneys and was told they are fine and to keep drinking loads everyday. Which I do. So strange though. Unless I'm just prone to them and because I am a woman. Who knows lol. Last year I had my first kidney infection
🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ x

Thanks for replying. I haven't heard of that before. Thanks for mentioning it. I will Google it and see what is all about.
Thanks 😊

I have had these re occurring symptoms. The latest, a few weeks ago, I have been drinking cranberry juice. I think it's working, but I don't want to speak too soon.

Tagetta · 12/09/2021 20:58

Some infections are resistant to some AB. They can send a sample to the lab to find which will work. D mannose can be good. Nettle tea is good if you retain. But some women just get them repeatedly. If you're post menopausal oestrogen cream can help. Mine seems to be related to wine. Every time I drink it, I get one. I've had to give it up.

Bostonbullsmumma · 12/09/2021 21:37

I get them a lot. It's awful. I feel for you OP. Keep drinking lots of water. I can't say I've found anything that helps. Every doctor does always ask if I go to the toilet straight after sex. If it is linked to that, I can say it really does help. I avoid hot baths and using products ect too. Despite having suffered for years, doctor doesn't seem bothered about referring ect which is so frustrating.

Hi, another regular sufferer of UTIs. It sounds like the antibiotics are not working, some UTIs are resistant to certain ABS.

You need to push for your doctor to send your urine sample to thr hospital.

I had so many infections whilst pregnant and nothing would work. The surgery only dip test so they had no idea l had a rare strain. It showed up when l did a routine sample at my hospital.

I had to stay in hospital for 5 days on a AB IV.

PieonaBarm · 12/09/2021 21:46

I had recurrent ones in my 20's, usually triggered by sex. I eventually had a Urethral Dilation under General Anaesthetic which worked. Get them maybe once a year now, but I try and empty my bladder before and after sex which does help.

Elouera · 12/09/2021 21:51

Are you anaemic or have any other deficiencies? I was anaemic when I was getting prone to UTI's.

If you have a male partner, is he cleaning under his foreskin? He might be re-infecting you. Are you wiping from front to back?

Purpleseaside · 06/10/2021 20:29

I had recurring utis for years and the doctors only gave me three day prescriptions (then they would come back a week later). I did everything I could to prevent them coming back but nothing worked. They were horrendously painful so I went to see a urologist privately.

He prescribed me a 6 month course of nitrofurantoin, one a day, which finally stopped any more infections. This was three years ago and now if I feel any sign of cystitis, I take a d mannose and it stops the symptoms from developing Smile I order them from Holland and Barrett.

I really hope you feel better soon, I can 100% sympathise with how awful they can be.

NoFunNan · 09/10/2021 16:55

Have had recurrent UTIs for literally years . So many triggers - alcohol , fizzy drinks , citrus fruits , caffeine , any kind of soap , shower gel etc . I avoid them all & drink plenty of water , but to no avail .Have had several tests over the years ( some quite invasive & very unpleasant) & results always come back clear. The best way of dealing with the situation that I have found is to take cystitis powder ( eg Cystopurin) available from chemists & supermarkets as soon as I think I may be getting an infection , & get antibiotics as soon as possible to catch attack early . The best solution is to always have a standby pack of antibiotics with you wherever you go , so you can start taking them as soon as an attack starts , but many GPs won't agree to this. I have never tried D Mannone . Does it work ?

lentilsandeggs · 09/10/2021 17:08

D mannose works very well for me. Strongly recommend the powder rather than the tablets which I find unpleasant. I get it on Amazon.

NoFunNan · 09/10/2021 19:20

Thanks for that. Will give it a go.

WTF475878237NC · 09/10/2021 19:26

I started taking probiotic supplements and it helped loads with prevention.

DobbleDobble · 09/10/2021 19:32

Another regular sufferer here.
I take two capsules of d-mannose daily and first sign of infection I up it to 4 daily which seems to help although occasionally still have to get antibiotics.
Can I ask how old you are though?
The reason why is I’ve started on hrt which has seemed to help with this a bit and a feeling of sore vagina which I read can be linked to vaginal atrophy as can uti’s.

NoFunNan · 09/10/2021 20:16

Hi. Thanks for all the tips. I have been using Vagifem vaginal tablets -a form of topical HRT for 18 months & things have improved a bit. Reading what everyone has been saying , I think there is no solution that works 100% . Various things help , but as yet there seems to be no actual cure.
