Bleeding for 13 days

I'm 45, periods normally really regular and had slowed down to 2-3 days bleeding a month. I started to have weird period pains on the right hand side, from the bottom corner to my waist so got sent for a scan. I had the scan yesterday but my bladder wasn't full enough so they will make me another appointment and possibly also do a vaginal ultrasound.

This past month has been hell. I bled for a couple of days about 2 weeks into my cycle for the first time and when my period started it was like nothing I have experienced before. I bled exceptionally heavily, I use either heavy duty reusables or Bodyform night and I was soaking through them in a couple of hours. There were some huge clots, the biggest about the length of my pinkie.

I'm now on day 13 of bleeding and it doesn't seem like it's stopping. I've got no pain now, just moderate bleeding with some clots.

I've got a GP appointment on the 14th but don't know if I should wait that long. Is there anything they can give me to stop the bleeding?

Have you had a covid jab recently?

I was given Tranexamic acid once for something and that completely stopped my period and the GP said sometimes they give it to people with really heavy periods.

I had my second jab in May and the day afterwards started bleeding heavily.

I have no idea if the vaccine can mess your periods up long term though.

In my case excessive and constant fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone hormone levels caused such bleeding.

My guess is that you'll be offered a mirena coil and or tranexamic acid tablets but that may or may not treat the symptoms effectively either so I would not settle for just these. The CAUSE of all this bleeding needs to be properly determined and for that to happen you need to see a gynaecologist.

The tranexamic acid did not work out at all and the only way my bleeding actually stopped was undergoing endometrial ablation surgery. If you keep bleeding heavily as well you could become anaemic as a result so prompt medical attention is advised.
