Just back from breast clinic ... I'm positive

Left breast. Appointment with the breast surgeon next.

I'm a bit cold and shaky, dry mouthed to be honest. I've led a fairly lucky life so far, so I thought I might wing my way past this too. But it seems not.

So much to think about. I'm a single mum so making sure everything is in place for dcs. What the likely choices are for future treatment? (I'll go for everything they can throw at it, as soon as possible). When to tell dcs? And what, exactly? Hopefully as little detail as possible. When to tell work? How they will react?

Bugger, bugger, bugger

Try not to get ahead of yourself. Deal with today; it's enough to get your head round. Then the next day., and so on.

There are many different breast cancers, wait and see what kind, and what stage.

Depending on type and stage, there will be different treatment options. Don't start imagining any of them yet. Wait for expert info from your own Drs..

Take a notebook and pencil to all appointments. Write down in advance, any questions you want to ask. On the spot, get it out, read out your questions and write down the answers Plus any other info they give you. Drs will happily give you space and time for this, they know that under pressure and stress people turn to jelly and it's hard to think straight or remember anything .

Bachs Rescue Remedy drops are cheap, harmless, and I find they do help . Take before appointments.

Firstly don’t panic- the vast vast majority of times people are cured of this - my personal history is 3 times positive in 3 years. All clear now and that was 20 years ago. Take a breathe, take time and let it sink in. Then pick pick yourself up and take it one day at time. You will get through this and the fact that lymph nodes are clear is very good news.

Whoopsmahoot · 01/09/2021 16:15

PS as someone who had cancer - step away from google!! All you will read are worse case senarios- better to write a list and ask consultant.

Every best wish in the world for you 💐

Hi, I'm currently going through breast cancer treatment. I had a lumpectomy and three lymph nodes removed in August. I have lobular breast cancer and I'm ER and HER2+. Everything is clear as a result of the surgery so I'll start chemo towards the end of September.

It's been a very emotional couple of months but the medics have been amazing and I've got fantastic family and friends.

I've found Breast Cancer Now and Macmillan and the forums/online communities the best for information and finding out from people who are going through it.

If you want to DM me anytime please do

Just wanted to say I'm sorry and I understand. I was diagnosed three years ago and I just remember the shock of it all. Cancer was something other people got.

Definitely do not google anything.

If you decide not to go for reconstruction please look at Flat Friends UK. They supported me through everything.

Best wishes.

Just to say thank you for all your support.

I've had the follow-up, it's cat 2, operable, surgery booked and the surgeon thinks I won't need chemo or radiotherapy on current information.

It's early days but I have a lot to be grateful for. After 3 weeks of tummy churning nerves, I'm eating chocolate cake. Cake

Great news !! I’ve been there and got the scars to prove it. You’re in good hands. Nhs is very good at this , enjoy your cake 🍰

RandomMess · 20/09/2021 20:53

That's great news Thanks

WhatsWithAllTheCarrots · 20/09/2021 20:58

@AutumnTulip that's such great news. Don't know if you're having lumpectomy or mastectomy, but I had a double mastectomy and it was much easier than I had imagined. Try and get meals stocked up in the freezer ahead of time, or get your DC to agree to share a cooking rota between them for a good three to four weeks afterwards. The more rest you get, the easier your healing will be x
