I absolutely hate examining my own breasts, which I probably do slightly more often than I need to because I’m a hypochondriac overly cautious. I am an E/EE cup so they are quite large (which I assume makes it more difficult but I might be wrong) and I just feel that I have no idea what I’m looking for. My boobs are lumpy and they’ve always been lumpy. I had this conversation with a GP when I was about 19 and she said that I should just be feeling for new lumps, which I’m sure is true but not very easy. I feel like someone is essentially saying to me “Here are two lumpy thing. Feel them and see if you can find any lumps.”
I know that bupa offer a private breast examination as one of their services, so I was wondering if anyone had paid for one and would be happy to say how much it cost and whether they found it useful? At least then the doctor might be able to advise me what it was I am feeling when I feel lumpy bits (tissue or milk ducts?) so I might feel a bit more educated. I know it includes a mammogram if you’re over 40 but I am only in my late twenties so wouldn’t be eligible for one of those.
Yesterday I was worrying that one of my breasts felt ‘denser’ than the other one at the top so I asked my partner to check (poor man) and he said they felt very symmetrical to him which made me completely lose confidence in my own self examination!
