I found a painful lump in my breast just over 3 weeks ago, I thought I would wait till my period started the following week to see it went, the pain went about 2 days after my period started but the lump was still there, but now it's been hurting again the past week, phoned the Dr today and I have an appointment Wednesday. I'm absolutely terrified. I'm only 29 and a have a little toddler :( anyone had anything similar which turned out to be nothing? Xx

Try not to panic. Breast cancer lumps are normally painless. I wish you all the best

QuestionableMouse · 23/08/2021 21:48

My mum had similar and it was a cyst that was unpleasant but harmless.

Urghhhhh · 24/08/2021 08:12

It must be a scary thing to go through, but try to find confort in the fact that a painful lump is much more likely to be benign (cyst, fibroadenoma, etc), especially in someone under 30. And most cancerous tumors are painless.

Do you have a family history of breast/ovarian cancer? If not, i really wouldn't freak out at this stage.

Mischance · 24/08/2021 08:17

I have had this several times and it always turned out to be a cyst, which is very common.

I know the wait for mammogram is nerve-wracking and hand-hold offered from me.

happydays2345 · 24/08/2021 08:28

Sounds like my cyst! Hard to do, but try not to worry, it will be fine 😊

My grandma had breast cancer, but the cancer spread to her brain and that was what caused her death in the end

Good luck with your appointment today.
I imagine you'll get a referral to the breast clinic within 2 weeks.

Completelybewildered · 25/08/2021 05:57

Hope your appt goes well. Wishing you all the best.

cultkid · 25/08/2021 06:21

Me

I had the breast clinic this week

Is it on the side you had a Covid vaccine? Apparently SO normal xx

Snorkello · 25/08/2021 06:34

Here for a hand hold!

It will be fine - first appointment is to check the lump. You may then get referred for a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. It’s all very quick and thorough. Not painful.

I hope it all goes well. Well done for checking and getting yourself to your gp.

opmamatrist · 25/08/2021 09:12

Hi guys, so I'm being referred down the two week pathway, the dr said it was a hard and mainly fixed lump, I'm terrified

BG2015 · 25/08/2021 09:56

This was me 8 weeks ago. It's scary but they're so good at the breast clinics.

Let us know how you get on. Remember most lumps are nothing

Lottie917 · 13/09/2021 19:41

Bit late to the thread here, you may have already had your appt OP (if so, I hope it was okay Flowers), but just to say I'm in the same situation. 28 with an 8 month old and I found a small pea sized lump in my boob. I've got my breast clinic appt tomorrow but in the week since my GP appt and referral I've found another painful lumpy area on the same boob. Feeling a bit wobbly =/

ReeseWitherfork · 13/09/2021 19:44

Two week wait referrals are for any suspicion of cancer, you probably just fit one of the symptoms they're looking for. So even though it could probably be 100 other things, they don't take the risk. Essentially, what I'm saying is, don't read into the urgency of the referral and draw any conclusions. They're being cautious.

I had my appointment on Wednesday and they said it was all ok, also pain is a good sign, are you due on your period? As they think mine could be hormonal as the pain is usually around ovulation xx

The 2 week wait or rapid referral honestly doesn't mean worst case or even that the GP thinks it is. Just that it does need checking out.
I've been so many times since my late 20's to be checked, examined, biopsied, mammogramed and every time It's been nothing sinister.
I've actually questioned if I should go at all with some of the recent ones because it's always nothing, but my common sense took over and off I went to the Gp knowing I'd be fast tracked.
My sister has had a few visits too (I joke we both must have shitty titties) She tends to get solid lumps, 2 of which were cysts and we've both had fibroadenomas which are benign and harmless.

I know it's scary but do try not to drive yourself crazy.
Keeping my fingers crossed that 2 weeks goes fast and that everything is ok x

I had my appointment on Wednesday and they said it was all ok this is wonderful news OP.

So glad your appointment went well OP!

I'm currently mid cycle / not due on for around another 12 days. The pain for the small lump I initially found is consistent and really not that bad, but the pain in the second area I've found I feel has suddenly come on and it's quite painful in comparison. It wasn't there when the Dr did an examination a week ago (I don't think anyway!) or when I was checking when I found the first lump. There's no definitive lump as such with this bit, just an area that feels thicker / tougher and lumpier in general, almost like rope texture.

Were they able to tell you on the day what it was or have you had to wait for any further results to come back? X

I called the breast unit about two days after I was referred as the pain was bothering me and they reassured me pain without any redness on the breast is a good sign. On the day of my appointment I was initially checked by a nurse/doctor who just physically examined my breast, I then had an ultrasound and they confirmed it was all ok and likely to be hormonal as they couldn't actually find any lumps on the ultrasound so it could have been a cyst or just breast tissue which felt a bit lumpy to me. The breast unit are great, most lumps are benign and nothing to worry about xx

Also are you breastfeeding or did you breast feed? I stopped breast feeding in may so I'm wondering if the change made my boobs seem more lumper x

Thanks for the info/reassurance all, appointment today went well. They confirmed no lumps found so they believe it's hormonal /lumpy breast tissue so similar to previous posters experiences. Very relieved!

And just to answer your question in case anyone else finds this thread useful, I didn't breastfeed DS but my boobs definitely have changed in shape, size and feel since giving birth. Xx
