Breast clinic

Hi I'm referred by my GP to the breast clinic. I just received the appointment letter and noticed that it's in the clinic under a male doctor.
May I know if NHS would accept my request to change to a female doctor/specialist?

My local breast clinic will accommodate this request if possible, but it often involves much longer waiting times
I hope everything goes well for you

You'll probably be seen by a mixture of people to be honest. You can always ask for a nurse to be present.

I'm being treated for breast cancer and I can honestly say that I didn't/don't care who examines me if it meant that diagnosis and treatment began as soon as possible.

I'd just like to echo what @BG2015 said. The most important thing is to get a diagnosis and treatment (if needed) add soon as possible.

I understand why some people are more comfortable with a female, and there's no harm in asking, but please don't delay the appointment.

When I had breast cancer, my surgeon was a man and I was initially a little uncomfortable with it, but he was the senior consultant and he saved my life. After the first couple of appointments, I couldn't care less who examined/treated me. I hope you're OK

I've been to the breast clinic a few times, most time it has been a man doing the initial examination but there has always been a female health care/nurse in the room as a chaperone. I would say you are ok to ask but the priority is being seen as soon as possible so please don't let it delay your appointment.
