A gynaecologist or a fertility clinic?

Hi all. I've been ttc since 1.5 years diagnosed with PCOS. Idk whether I should visit a gynaecologist or go to a fertility clinic.

An initial consultation with a gynaecologist is £200 and I don't know how much the tests etc would cost. For a fertility clinic it would be some tests and consultation for £350. The cost is important but not so much that I would compromise on healthcare. I have PCOS and maybe visiting a gynaecologist would just help by her giving me some meds but I fear a fertility clinic would take things an extra mile and start proper ovulation induction therapies and stuff and I guess I'm fearful over it. I'm so confused and get depressed at time over no babies. I've always taken care of my siblings babies and would imagine myself as a good mother and I just want that for myself. I need to self fund too because the NHS wouldn't and it's just all sad confusing and depressing. Please help and give any advice.

Have you talked to your GP? Even though the nhs won’t treat you they should still be able to advise who you’d be best to see, and even going privately they might require a referral from them. My gynae is about £150 per consultation appointment, a set of blood tests was over £700, MRI scan was similar, I didn’t see the bill for in patient treatment but I dread to think what it added up to.

@emmathedilemma thanks for the reply..yea I've spoken to the GP and I have a referral letter too but after the referral I received another letter that said NHS won't find assisted conception services for me (I guess due to the visa I'm on) so they cancelled my consultation with the gyne and now I have to self fund.

£700 worth of tests seems a lot and I'm just dreading that if I get into the boat with one clinic/doctor idk how much I'll end up spending and will it even be worth it but I guess that's a risk that needs to be taken..

I'd still talk to your GP about the private route, they tend to know the local specialists in each area and you might need their referral to use them. Also, have a look on your nearby private hospital websites as they usually list Consultants and their specialisms. Their reception / call centre staff are usually very helpful if you're not sure who you need to see and I'm sure they'd be willing to give you an idea of costs up front (it's a different world compared to ringing NHS Receptionists!!).
