Labia abnormality

Hi ladies,

I'm 30 years old and I have a 3 year old son. After childbirth my vagina completely changed (sorry tmi) by that I mean I have a significantly larger right Labia compare to the left. My left labia is a normal size however my right isn't as it is much bigger than the left side. I have now decided to contact my Gp after 3 years to discuss the situation further. I have no confidence whatsoever, can't wear certain underwear because its noticeable. Do you guys think this is something that I am able to get help from the nhs? Is got to the point that is affecting my relationship.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Can someone give me any advice on this please? Is NHS going to do something about it or do I need to save up and get it done private?

Thanks in advance

I doubt the NHS will do anything tbh but worth going to your GP to see.

I have to say it would be a cold day in hell when I let anyone trim my labia. Lots of people can't wear certain underwear, they just wear what is comfortable.

I've always had 1 side much longer than the other, and I don't even have kids! I investigated it many years ago, but decided that just tucking it all in was the solution.

I'd be very surprised if the NHS would trim it, unless it was so long that it was getting ulcerated, trapped and caught on things! Its worth inquiring with your GP, but I'd also get prices to have it done privately if its an issue.

I had this, GP won’t help unless really extreme. It’s cosmetic apparently and privately costs about £3k around here. I consider it now and again but not brave enough to go through with itx

One side of mine has always been much longer. Normal doesn't always equal symmetrical in the natural world.

There is an Australian website www.labialibrary.org.au . It would be worth looking at if you haven’t seen it already. The range in labias out there is really vast but it’s not something people are aware of. Porn has made this worse because a lot of the women in it have had labiaplasty.

Has to be at the very extreme level for NHS to help - had very similar op ten odd years ago and it required a few years of referrals and discussions and stuff before they’d do it - and that was at the extreme level, was part of what they think now is a genetic syndrome . The guidelines are very, very strict ... In all honesty if you can avoid it I would, unless you’re in absolute agony or at risk of serious disease, the pain and recovery just isn’t worth it . You can get emollients and stuff to help with any chaffing .

Thank you ladies.
Went and see the Gp today and without hesitation she referred me to the gynaecologist.
Now it's just a waiting game.

I had my labia trimmed due to a bad labial tear during child birth which didn't heal.
It was really quite painful afterwards, for several days I couldn't sit, but it does get better gradually and I'm glad I had it done as it was better than the constant discomfort I was in before.

I will say, the end result is not pretty, it wasn't done for aesthetic reasons.

RandomMess · 08/08/2021 10:16

I researched this and there very many horror stories on long lasting pain and discomfort afterwards. Unless it's painful now I wouldn't consider it.

Any updates because today I got referred to a gynaecologist aswell for labiaplasty
