How to relieve itching/thrush?

Lovemusic33 · 17/07/2021 06:11

Hi, I stupidly tried a different shower gel last week (wanting to be better for the environment) and ever since my foof has been on fire. I have tried thrush treatment whish seems to have made it worse, im now so sore it stings to pee and my vulva feels like razor blades. I tried applying 1% steroid cream last night which I use for my eczema and it ses to have helped a little but I'm still really sore down there (just not itching). Is there anything else I can do to receive it?

I am on my period so can't go without underwear and I don't want to go to the doctor whilst bleeding.

😭😭

Natural yogurt is meant to help with thrush but it sound like you may have had an allergic reaction, have you tried taking antihistamines other than that I think you may need to go to the doctors, my doctors just gave me a prescription over the phone didn't need to go and see them unless it doesn't get better with treatment

Vagisil is lidocaine which will numb the area so you won’t feel the itch. I’d try a little bit first to make sure it doesn’t cause you any added pain.

Ouch! Agree sounds like an allergic reaction.

Be sure to use unscented shower gel down there and not go in the labia. Hope you feel better soon.

If you go to the chemist they’ll be able to sell you the tablet and/or the pessary

Passthecake30 · 17/07/2021 07:32

Try sudocream

TiddyAndFletch · 17/07/2021 07:33

Vagasil

I think natural yoghurt on a tampon is supposed to help and as previous poster said you could try an anti histamine too .

If it is thrush (and not a reaction) then mine only went away after doing all of the following (sorry) which seemed to kill it off (regardless of how it started eg one time it was due to antibiotics) - no sugar, cotton underwear, cotton san pro, sanex (or similar) shower gel, no tights, tight jeans etc. It was always worse during my period because of the sanitary products - switching to organic cotton based disposables (Boots sell a few varieties) and then cotton reusable pads means it hasn't come back. I did try using the products to get rid of t but they never worked 100%

I did try putting yoghurt on a sanitary pad once or twice but although it worked it was ridiculously grim to clear up.

Also tried wrapping an ice block in a tea towel and shoving it between my legs (over the top of knickers!). That works really really well but obvs wash tea towel immediately after Grin actually that worked better than yoghurt so I highly recommend it.

Obvs have name changed Grin

Empty a bottle of apple cider vinegar into a cool shallow bath and sit in it for about half an hour.

dementedpixie · 17/07/2021 08:27

Have you tried the oral tablet?

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 17/07/2021 08:36

Antihistamine cream, will hopefully provide immediate relief.

Lovemusic33 · 17/07/2021 08:37

I have tried the cream and the cream pessary and it feels worse. I have quite bad eczema on other parts of my body, it feels similar to that, I have no discharge or anything, if anything it feels dry.

I haven’t tried the oral tablet as I have been unable to get hold of one, seems they don’t sell them anymore?

I’m wearing washable pads and period pants as disposable pads make it worse.

I have just bought antihistamines to try. It does feel a bit better after the steroid cream, just one very sore patch where I think the skin has split/bled 😬.

You can buy the oral tablet at the chemist. Ask at the counter. Or buy online

dementedpixie · 17/07/2021 08:42

The generic tablet is fluconazole so you can buy branded (e.g. canesten) or buy the cheaper version

I’ve had this before and took loads of thrush treatments but it wasn’t thrush - like you, it was very dry and sore, with no discharge.

After getting some stronger steroid cream from the Dr, it cleared up so I would carry on with hydrocortisone for now, if I were you. I also used to slather myself in good old Sudocrem which also helped a lot.

I only use Sanex shower gel as it’s the only thing that doesn’t irritate my foof!

Thank you, yes I’m pretty sure it’s not thrush or the thrush treatment would have helped. I bought the Sanex 0% bubble bath/body wash yesterday and will stay away from soap for a while.

I order my fluconozole (thrush tablets) on an online pharmacy.

My advice would be to keep using the 1% hydrocortisone cream. The area can take this as the skin isn't like other areas. The dose is very low and it won't be for too long. You can buy Canasten 1% OTC which is both combined. It's a blue tube rather than a red one.

Get the itching under control and apply thrush cream at the same time.

This will start to sort the immediate problem out.

The you'll need to order a thrush tablet or phone your GP for one to sort out the internal thrush.

I find mensural blood aggravates things, your hormones dipping before your period make you more susceptible to thrush and pads 'cook' it. Can you use tampons for 48 hours if you don't already?

pinkgin85 · 17/07/2021 08:49

Are you sure it's thrush? Sounds very quick and extreme if so, could be an allergic reaction. Try taking an antihistamine and maybe call your GP

Lovemusic33 · 17/07/2021 15:59

Thank you everyone, feeling much better after taking the antihistamines and the hydrocortisone cream. Pretty sure it isn’t thrush and is just eczema due to a reaction from the shower gel. I can now pee without being in agony.

You normally get a discharge with thrush, my last bout was very itchy but had a thin discharge too.
