Transvaginal ultrasound

Hi everyone, my gp has recommended Miss Ghada Salman for a transvaginal ultrasound. I can't find any reviews of her online. Does anyone have experience with seeing her, is she gentle, straightforward, bedside manner etc? TIA!

I have no idea about that consultant but I’ve had that procedure done on the NHS and personally wouldn’t consider going privately for it unless it’s a question of being seen more quickly. The whole thing took about 5 mins and was essentially less invasive than a smear.

Agree- I've had two and a smear is far more uncomfortable,

I've never heard of the consultant but as another ivfer I've had dozens of these. They are nothing to worry about!

Eleoura · 16/07/2021 16:35

Never heard of her. Is she in the UK?

You might find its not her personally performing it you know! Depending on the clinic/hospital or where ever she works, it would likely be a sonographer performing the actual TV, and the Dr interpreting the results.

I've had MANY. I've had worse smear tests. The actual probe has a medical condom and lube on it and it only goes in about 5cm.

Lovemusic33 · 16/07/2021 18:48

I have had the procedure many times and it’s easier than a smear.

55378OO8 · 16/07/2021 18:54

I came on to say that it's easier than a smear and everyone else has beaten me to it.

cookiecreampie · 16/07/2021 18:57

I've had them a few times in pregnancies and for period problems. They're painless, I wouldn't even say they were uncomfortable, although they might be for some who are worried about this sort of thing.

I also had ivf and had these almost daily for a week, and at other times. They really weren't painful. Less uncomfortable than a smear or an internal examination. I don't know the doctor you've mentioned.

LivingLaVidaCovid · 16/07/2021 19:06

No idea who she is but i had one yesterday

I had decided against one as i thought it would be creepy and uncomfortable but had to have one as it looked like there was a problem.

It wasn't painful, uncomfortable or awkward, dont worry.

Trinacham · 16/07/2021 19:06

Like others have said, there's really nothing to it. I was nervous for having a transvaginal scan. It was painless. Some people say it's uncomfortable, but I wouldn't even say that. I didn't feel any discomfort at all. I am someone who has never had a smear (for reasons I won't go into), but they definitely sound uncomfortable in comparison!

eurochick · 16/07/2021 19:30

Oh hey @TheBuggerlugs! I hadn't spotted that was you! Dildocam veterans😄

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/07/2021 20:17

It’s literally nothing, they hold it in the entrance and point it to where they need to look while standing to the side of you while your legs are bent up at the knee.

The rooms dark so you don’t feel exposed.

Jackgrealishscurtains · 17/07/2021 20:19

Yes, way better than a smear test, totally different experience.

HampMarj1978 · 26/07/2021 15:52

Thank you so much to you all for replying to my message, I much appreciate it! I'm not concerned about the procedure per se, I've had it performed previously and have been fine. I just have a lot going on medically, have medical PTSD and need someone who's really gentle and comforting.

Has anyone who posted in this thread seen a specialist in this field in London, who they could recommend (gentle, comforting, great bedside manner)?
