Hysterectomy fears - please help

Hello lovely ladies my appointment for my total hysterectomy has finally come through and now I'm imagining all the possible things that could go wrong 😳 Worried about incontinence, prolapse ,never having libido return. I know I'm lucky being offered this surgery, I really do, but I'm almost talking myself out of it from fear. I am 50 and need surgery due to really heavy clotting and bleeding that ongoing for years, the coil has stopped the huge size clots but not the bleeding . I have horrendous migraines and pelvic pain. I'm perimenopause but not on HRT. I need abdominal total hysterectomy due to enlarged cervix. Any reassurances or validations , honest feedback from your experience of total hysterectomy would be really really helpful to me. I've googled hystersisters and this terrified the life out of me so staying away from that site😥 Thank you everyone and big hugs 🤗

If you are having your ovaries removed too, this will result in surgical menopause. You need a treatment plan for beyond your operation. This might or might include HRT but it would usually.
I assume they have offered or tried an ablation first (not just the Mirena.)

(Just to say a 'total' hyster includes ovaries and tubes so assume that's what you mean.)

Is their a reason for your heavy bleeding and clots?

OP avoid hyster sisters like the plague. I am late 30's and had a hysterectomy 7 months ago for the same reason. Mine was vaginal and I kept my ovaries. Surgery wise I was absolutely fine, I was home the following morning and uncomfortable but not in a great deal of pain. This carried on for a few weeks but wasn't unbearable more strange sensations. The worst part for me was shooting pains down my buttock and in to my thighs which I was told was nerves healing. I had 6 weeks off work but was more than ready to return after that. I did have 2 very large bleeds in this time which I was assured was totally normal. I have had no complications and down stairs is erm fully healed and back in action. I know a abdo is slightly different but honestly it's life changing surgery in the best way possible.

I had one 7 years ago, I was in my 40's. I had it for adenomyosis and heavy bleeding. I had a total hysterectomy and went straight onto hrt patches afterwards, I'm still on it now at 52.
I was in overnight then was allowed home.
Make sure you have something for wind and and make sure you rest completely, listen to your body, don't go by what others say, everyone is different. It took me a bit longer to recover because I had been quite ill leading up to it.
It was life changing for me.
Good luck!

I had a hysterectomy in 2017 for fibroids. I too was bleeding constantly for months and months.

I had key hole surgery and honestly it was fine. The first week was the worst being uncomfortable, getting in and out of bed etc but after that I just got better and better.

I was driving after 4 weeks and back at work after 6.

I've never looked back.
