Preventive salpingectomy-private insurance

Hi all,

I am due a surgery shortly which is covered by my private insurance, thankfully.

I asked my surgeon if he could do salpingectomy cause I have a family history of ovarian cancers and studies show cancer starts from the tubes. But apparently it won't be covered by my insurance. Because it will be deemed as contraception.

I am just arming myself with info before I contact my insurer. Did anyone had any cancer preventive surgery and was insured?

Thanks all.

My advice would be to build a case including the family members and their medical histories. Any tests you've had that show that you're at risk. Any evidence where any medics professional has suggested the procedure as a preventative measure rather than a contraceptive measure. Can your surgeon write a letter to your insurance with the reasons why he would recommend it as a cancer preventing measure? The surgeon I work for would.

Thanks.

That's exactly what I am looking for. And my next step would be to ask my consultant. I just wanted to know how insurance company work their policies and how is cud prove my case.

Thanks
