Well, this wasn't in the plan! (Breast lump)

I woke up yesterday morning, bizarrely with my hand on my boob, and felt a lump. I was in a hotel at the time so got up, had a bath, swore a bit (a lot). Thankfully the drs fitted me in today and I have been referred to the breast clinic.

I have literally just turned 50 this month, we are in the process of buying/selling so we can move, work is super busy (but a job I really enjoy) and I am the main breadwinner.

Not sure why I am posting really, but I am not ready to share this with anyone in rl yet, other than DH who I have just said it is probably one of a million other things before it is anything nasty.

@BG2015 sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope you have looked at the long running cancer thread? Lots of people on there with BC.

I went alone, pre-covid. This was because I had been before and it had been nothing and I expected the same.
The consultant radiologist did my ultrasound and biopsy and it was pretty obvious she was concerned. The consultant then saw me and said "we are 90% sure it's cancer".
The radiologist has a pretty good idea what breast cancer looks like and I think this is why they will tell you on the day if they think it's cancer. The biopsy does more than confirm it, it gives an analysis of the cancer which directs treatment.

Going into work sounds like a good idea. Distraction helps pass the time until your appointment.

So just got back from the appointment. I had a mammogram, ultrasound then a biopsy as I have a cluster of cysts but there is some inflammation around the outside just to be sure all is ok. So, feeling a bit sore but relieved as they said it was just precautionary to take the biopsy. Results back in two weeks. All the people I met today were very kind, caring and patient.
There was a guy there too waiting to be seen. I think it is easy to forget it's not just a female disease.

My cancer was confirmed last week. Stage 2 lobular cancer.

I'm going for an MRI on Wednesday so they can make a decision about treatment.

It's lumpectomy/radiotherapy OR chemo/mastectomy depending on what the MRI says.

I'm also going to need Herceptin for at least the next five years as my cancer is hormone positive.

It's been a whirlwind few weeks and which I never want to repeat.

@quincymincy it's good they're taking precautions- I hope your results come back clear

@BG2015 I have read some of your story on the cancer thread. It is all very fast isn't it? A terrifying whirlwind.
Thank you for replying to my thread when your works has been turned upside down.

Today they seemed to be erring on the side of caution rather than it was something to worry about... but it's hard not to think of there was nothing to worry about thru wouldn't take a biopsy?

I think typically if they are thinking it is cancer they tend to be upfront about it. I know when my mum had her cancer diagnosis it was more like ‘this is breast cancer let’s biopsy to find out what we are dealing with’ whereas last time I had a biopsy the narrative was ‘pretty sure it’s a cyst let’s just check it’s not anything else’. So I think you can be cautiously optimistic. Sounds like the imaging went well and it probably isn’t sinister.
