Hi everyone I got diagnosed a few weeks ago with what they think is graves and an overactive thyroid, I am currently on carbimazole and propanol. Anyway my anxiety has been awful I keep worrying too death about it. How do I stop worrying and why is my Tsh not detectable? My T4 levels are coming down which I presume is good.

The anxiety is part of the condition unfortunately. Is the propranolol helping with the anxiety at all?

Are they sure it’s Graves? When my thyroid went overactive, my GP told me it was Graves and like you I was worried sick but once I saw the endocrinologist it was diagnosed differently.

Hi, I have had graves since 2015. To be honest, it is a bit of an emotional and physical slog until they get your medication levels correct, and again afterwards if you go over again in the future.
Try to be kind to yourself - plan for more sleep than you may be used to getting, cancel social plans unless they are definitely going to make you happy/less anxious, and eat well. It’s not really the time for you to make any big life changes such as changing jobs, and you just need lots of self care.

My TSH was non-existent for about four years, and through two pregnancies - I’ve no idea why but nobody seemed bothered in the slightest!

Quito what did you end up getting diagnosed with? I also have been prescribed vitamin d3 by go, propanol has been helping most days, I seem to get the odd bad day where I have anxiety most of the day but I am not helping myself by doing nothing but moping around which is where I need to give myself a good hard kick up the rump!

I have Graves Disease. Diagnosed at the hospital in 2005.

Under control now because I was given radioactive iodine years ago to kill off my thyroid, so now I just have to take a safe dose of Levothyroxine every day.

I believe your TSH levels will be low / undetectable because your thyroxine levels are still high, even though the carbimazole will have been slowly allowing them to fall. It is a slowish process.

Mine was caused by pregnancy. Post-partum thyroiditis. My GP hadn't heard of it so told me I had Graves and that's what I believed for 6 weeks.

I do think you will start to feel better once the medication does its job but I remember the awful feelings of despair compounded by the fact that your heart is beating so bloody fast.

I hope you start to feel better soon

Thanks

Thanks all I spoke to the lady at the British thyroid page today and she was very reassuring and explained everything to me.
