Hopefully someone can help...

I'm having a uterine fibroid embolisation next week and if mentions "shaving the groin". How much needs taken off?? And how far in? Does it need to be a close shave or just a trim?? My public hair is a "full triangle". It's been lasered at the edge where your pants are but no further.

Hi, does it mention that you need to shave groin or they're going to shave groin? I only ask as prior to c-section appointment I was told not to shave stomach or pubic area at all to avoid risk of infection, and was told they'd do it if they needed to.
If it/they say specifically for you to do it I'd probably take it to mean a close shave. X

Actually the letter doesn't mention it at all but ok reading about it online it says you should do it. They can apparently do it via the groin or wrist so maybe it's via the wrist in my case.

We stopped shaving groins a long time ago
I think infection control studies had suggested that recent skin shaving was a potential infection risk and therefore not necessary
You could trim if particularly hairy and yes if arterial access is required it could be groin or wrist vessels used
You'll be fine

It was wrist! So no need for a tidy.

If you don't mind me asking but How was the procedure? They are considering it for me.

hopeishere · 29/06/2021 12:19

Well it was ok. The pain afterwards has been a bit more than I anticipated. Procedure very straightforward- in at 7.30, paperwork, met consultant, into theatre at 9.20 and out an hour later. Very tired. Was sedated but not asleep. Felt nothing. They used an abdominal nerve block. I did get a spasm in my arm and had a dead arm afterwards. Pain at bay for a good few hours but increased overnight. Had to keep asking for pain relief (ward was badly managed overnight). More pain relief in the morning and was sent home about 3pm. Pain bad yesterday but not so bad today.
