Recurrent mild thrush - what to do?

57 replies

ImbarbaraB · 11/06/2021 10:01

I seem to be constantly suffering with mild thrush on and off for months now

Anytime I have my period it happens
Anytime I bath it happens (have stopped even using bubbles but it still happens?

It’s not full on ferocious but it’s generally uncomfortable

What can I do?

@BIWI
@BreakingtheIce

At the risk of repeating myself- all carbohydrates break down to sugar in the body.

Our bodies run on these sugars.

If you mean reduce or cut REFINED (table sugars), sure fine. It’s not going to cure your thrush. (And no, we don’t NEED table sugars but we are very well adapted to cope with them and within reason they aren’t nearly as terrible and dangerous as some people would have you believe).

If you mean remove ALL sugars you are recommending a much more serious diet alteration which should never be recommended to strangers, and never carried out without solid medical reasoning and support, because of the risks associated.

My previous posts cover this. If you want evidence I have linked above to an excellent podcast with a nutritional scientist who breaks this all down.

Those who suffer recurrent thrush will often find the internet is littered with advice with regard to sugar and I am just here to point out it is advice little evidence behind and please don’t cut food groups without understanding the risks first (particularly triggering disordered eating).

Indeed, I don’t add sugar to my diet at all.

However, I consume sugars in the carbohydrates or even dairy I eat day to day

I can’t cut these out

(I could cut the wine out, I’d rather not)

I’m worrying it will be just ruled out as a hormonal imbalance due to be postpartum and breastfeeding still , especially as these bouts seem to be worse during the full moon in my cycle

My GP prescribed me endless tablets, they didn’t really work and I think it’s at least partly allergy to toilet roll and detergent

I went through a stage of ironing my underwear to make sure that everything possible had been zapped by heat.

I hope it passes OP. I had chronic thrush for years as a teen. Too much sugar, beer & a crap diet not helping.

I now always get a flucanazole if I have anti biotics, and will continue to resist the GP pressure to have a coil...

ImbarbaraB · 14/06/2021 22:53

What could be the reason behind the coil not helping matters?

So many have mentioned it

@ImbarbaraB I'm not sure what effects the coil has as I've had it for years with no thrush symptoms. My only thinking is the treads causing irritation once there is an imbalance 🤷‍♀️
