Smear test

Looking for a bit of reassurance. I was due to have my smear test last May but covid came then I found out I was pregnant. I didn't get a letter until November with the backlog but when I phoned they said they couldn't do it because I was pregnant. I'm now booked in for tomorrow to have it done as my little girl is 11 weeks but I'm absolutely terrified. I'm a year overdue and so worried something will be wrong. I've never had any abnormal smears before but I'm so scared that it's been left too long. Has anyone been here before?

It will be fine. 👍

In Scotland, they now leave 5 years between tests.

Try not to worry - I also panicked a few years ago because I didn’t go for a follow up appointment until more than 6 months after I was meant to (and that was when they had actually identified something they wanted to monitor after 6 months - so it ended up being about a year between appointments). I got so worked up about it before I got my results through, convinced I was going to have inoperable cancer or something because of my silly delay (caused by moving house and not getting the letter at first then just being busy). All was fine. Even if the smear were to show abnormal cells needing treatment, AND if they happened to be the “bad” kind (i.e. not just CIN 1), my understanding is that those would yeeeears to develop. Obviously people should go to their appointments at the right time if possible, but I’m sure you have nothing worry about - even on the off chance you’ve had bad luck and there is something there to be treated, I’m sure the delay is not going to have made a difference.

Cervical cancer is very slow growing, so you will be absolutely fine with your delay. Just book it in as soon as you can

Thinking rationally you know you've never had an abnormal smear and you've been fine. Your body doesn't know you're late getting the smear and if you'd never had a smear in all the years you have it would still have all been fine.
Not sure I'm getting my point across wellGrin

Well I went today and was told I need to come back next week as I'm only 11 weeks post partum. I'm so annoyed as I thought that but the receptionist told me it was 6 weeks PP.

I was due mine in October. I had one October 2019 & was told I'd need another in 12 months due to testing positive for hpv. But I was pregnant. I've got to wait till 12 weeks pp. I'm really hoping everything is okay.

Well done for going, that’s annoying about the timing. If it’s any consolation I’ve had both normal and abnormal smears in the past, the abnormal one pre pregnancy with the standard 3 year gap, and the totally normal one after a 4.5 years gap due to getting pregnant just before one was due. I was nervous given the gap and my history but all was fine Smile
