Periods make me feel awful

Hiya, wondering if anyone else has a a similar experience or any advice!

My periods have always come with PMS where I feel grumpy a few days before my period and miserable for a few days at the start of my period, also I struggle with energy and feel like my brain just isn't working! I'm 32 (if that matters) over the last few years the start of my period has brought on cramps in my bowels and I've had to go to the toilet. Since having my baby 1 year ago this has got worse.

GP suggested desogestrel mini pill in hopes it would stop my period. It hasn't. It is lighter and less bowel issue. But still there. And it's made me feel awful. I'm struggling to function. My brain just feels like it's miss firing, like it's got missing connections. It's not quite dizzy and not quite a headache but I feel awful.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? What did you do to help? Would the coil help?

I would try to have your thyroid function checked via blood tests. This may in part but due to problems with the thyroid gland.

Google PMDD. Start tracking your cycles more. Vit b6 and magnesium supplements are good, if PMDD fits there are combined pills you could try

I should also mention I get mestrual migraines too.

@AttilaTheMeerkat I hadn't considered the thyroid. Thanks, I'll look this up and see if I should suggest to GP

@QuentinBunbury thanks, I'll look up the by and magnesium supplements.PMDD is probably a good shout. I decided against combined pills due to migraines and also I'm breastfeeding and GP said it could affect supply. But baby is almost 12 months so not sure it would as supply is well established now! But in the future I think it's worth seeing if combined pill could suit dispite the migraines

I get menstrual migraines and have PMDD, am on oestrogen patches and bioidentical progesterone. Haven't had a migraine since I started treatment. But I couldn't have the pill cos of migraines. Progesterone contraception makes me very depressed Sad
If you look on RCOG website they have helpful treatment guidelines.

Sorry to hear you suffer too. That's great about not having a migraine since.
That's very interesting, I'll definitely have a look!

Have you considered endometriosis? When you mention your bowels being affected this is a definite symptom plus everything else you’ve said.
