Cone biopsy

Hi, I have a cone biopsy scheduled in a couple of weeks (fingers crossed!) And I haven't had one before. If you have had one or know someone that has had one, I am wondering how you were after the procedure? I am quite anxious and would like to hear what others experience was.

I had one 30 odd years ago and it was fine. A little uncomfortable and undignified, but I'm grateful that it removed pre-cancerous cells and I had no more issues.

Good luck!

Thanks you PP. Were you sore after?I have already had cells removed via a Lletz and they were confirmed as early stage cervical cancer so the cone biopsy is hopefully to rule out anymore

I was a little sore, I think, but honestly nothing much. I was early 20s at the time and remember being anxious - but went on to get pregnant a few months after that, so it can't have been too bad! Smile (I have 5 children now).

I had regular yearly smears for about 5 years or so after that, then back to every 3 years, I think. I'm now 56 and post menopausal if that helps. It was 1991, so I also imagine treatment is even better now!

Thank you for the reassurance, it is very much needed

Very best of luck, OP!

It's perfectly normal to be anxious about something like this, but I think it's a fairly common procedure, and I hope they rule out any more issues.

I have had one as well some 27 years ago.
Done under general anaesthetic obviously, no pain afterwards that I can recall. It was understandably very upsetting at the time and I had to wait 2 weeks for the results which was very worrying.
Thankfully no other treatment was needed, although I had to have annual smears for the next 10 years.
I did become pregnant a few months later and went on to miscarry. I do wonder if the treatment had something to do with it but I was not advised to delay getting pregnant. That may be something worth asking about.
Good luck and hope all goes well.

Thank you PP, I already have one child and we have no plans in the future for another. The consultant did advise of the higher risk of miscarry though. The consultant explained the procedure and I think it made me more anxious then I probably should be

How I wish my consultant had mentioned the higher risk of miscarriage and I also regret not askings. Times have changed for the better hopefully.
I think I had a 10p piece of my cervix removed, I think they did this to get a wide margin.
At smear tests it has been noticed by the nurse's but obviously I am not aware of it.
