Pelvic pain, anyone?

For the last 3 days I've had dull heavy pelvic pain. It feels like period pain (which i rarely get, and never severe) but it's less crampy and more a dull ache (the type that feels like there is something there inside you!).

It's there most of the time. Sometimes slightly worse, sometimes slightly better.

Had my period last week so its not that, I'm not pregnant, no UTI symptoms or constipation

Had smear in Jan which showed HPV but no cell changes.

Not sure if this is worth bothering the GP about... sex has been quite painful the last few months but not sure if its relevant.

Anyone had similar?!

I've had very similar pain to what you're describing for the last 6 months, with occasional gastro symptoms. At first I thought it was ibs or coeliac or a food intolerance, but I'm now thinking it is endometriosis. Could that be a possibility? Some of your symptoms match, and it can come and go with your cycle, often starting around ovulation.

"Bother" the GP with this issue and do not be fobbed off, what you need is a referral to a gynae.

Endometriosis was the first thing I thought of when you were writing about pelvic pain. Same with the painful sex. Deep pain during sex is highly suggestive of endometriosis being present.

Any symptoms that are cyclical in nature and or get worse up to and including menses should be checked out by a gynaecologist to see if endometriosis is present.

I get this when my cervix is moving up and down either side of my period.

cheesecrackerz · 06/05/2021 18:24

@lazylinguist No gastro symptoms, and I have been tested for coeliac in the past. I'm not close to ovulation yet, although do sometimes get pain in my right ovary at ovulation (i know this is normal) although I do get it at other times too

@AttilaTheMeerkat I don't have what I imagine as 'classic' endo symptoms- my periods are short, pretty light and not painful (very occasional cramps, maybe a few times a year!). My mother had bad endo and fibroids eventually needing a hysterectomy, but her periods and pain were really awful from her first period. If this did turn out to be endo, what would the treatment options be? It doesn't feel 'severe' enough to warrant any treatment, although it is bothering me a bit.

@DinosaurDiana I had no idea this was a thing! How long does it last?

I have pelvic floor dysfunction, which can have many symptoms. Worth reading about but your GP may not be aware of it - I see an amazing (private) pelvic floor physiotherapist.

cheesecrackerz · 06/05/2021 18:46

@PainAgain thank you, I don't have any other symptoms and none of the causes/risk factors apply to me currently. Glad you've found a great physio!

If you are prepared to examine yourself everyday for a month you will know when yours moves up and down.
I learned about it after I’d been to the GP complaining of various pains, and had a even been for an ultrasound. Nothing was found and then I happened upon this information and it was like a light going on, I suddenly realised what these various pains were.

HI OP just wondering if you had an outcome for this pain? I am having similar the last 10 days, with nausea and pain in my lower back and down legs sometimes. It feels very like pre period bloating and fullness but it started as I finished my last period. Am booking gp for next week. But just wondering about it
